Default sunroof question

whats up. my friend just bought an 88 crx si and his sunroof is really faded and has a rust hole in the top of it. my question is will the civic glass sunroof fit the old one? has anyone tried this? and how much should he expect either one of them to be? thanks

well if it has to be custom we probably wont do it. i was just wondering if any of them were direct fits. how hard is it to put a new sunroof in. he needs it replaced bad. do you have to take the headliner and everything out. is it hard?

Are you talking about an electric sunroof? Is so it's not that hard to take it off, I've done mine like 30 times cause I have a broken ramp, and my motor is blew up. I changed the ramp and it's still leaking air at high speed, makes awful noise kinda like running with windows open at 100 mph. I'm really about to throw it away and put a glass one since it's not working anyway.

To take it off there is only 2 screws, open your sunroof and look under it you will see 2 screws on each side that bolting it to the ramp. Take them off and that's it.

never tried, I wanted to change it but it worth 200$+ CAN at the honda dealer so I said screw it. Can't find any in junkyard here, CRXs are rare as hell. I know you have to remove the interior which is not hard at all, then the motor show up. But I wouldn't bother doing it, get a glass to fill the hole and tint it.

The sunroof from the dealer should be about $200 + the cost of painting.

anyone know if it's possible to swap a whole roof? i have a DX crx and i am leaning torwards putting a sun roof in. but don't want to spend the $$$ to get a custom one done. so can i just remove the welds under the molding in the rof and get a doonor rood with a sun roof and weld that in? i have heard that this is the way honda does them at the factory so figured i'd ask before anything...

Yes, I posted about that. I have personally seen it done on a 92-95 HB, a friend who works at a junkyard. He found the roof with the sunroof, took his off and put the new one in. It's a job you can do in a day, if you can get someone to tack it in for you. If you've ever had your headliner off and the rain gutters, you'd see that the roof is one piece. If you take your time and make sure to use plenty of sealer on the new roof you should be fine. HTH Kerry
(p.s. I'm assuming that the person doing the swap would have some mechanical knowledge, or you'll probably **** it up).

I was told that if you get something welded onto your roof like that it will leak eventually when it raines and will need to be redone, to much of a hassle. A guy I met had someone weld on the roof to cover the sunroof, and that is what happened it started to bubble up and get rust after only like 1 year.
