I HAVE A 1999 CIVIC SI THAT NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED BY CHP BECAUSE THE CAR IS SALVAGE...I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT DO THEY BASICALLY CHECK??? AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE...IF U GOT INFO LET ME KNOW...THANKS

 

Pretty sure they check the Vin in the window, the vin on the Firewall, and the vin on the engine to make sure they all match.

 

i got done with my old crx. all they do is check the vin's and the mileage on your cluster. they dont even look at your motor. i suggest doing it by the dmv like i did for chp scares me.. make a appointment its a drive thru well the one i went to was

 

they don't even look at the motor, just at the vins on the firewall,door jams and look at the milage, that's it....

I heard some chp offices are more thorough than others. Which chp office would you recommend i go to? i also need the inspection because my car is salvage. Im located in the San jose area. Thanks

If everything regarding your car is legitimate, what difference does it make what they check or where you take it?

like they said check vins and then you also have to take it to get a light and brake inspection. Ask around only certain shops have the certificates to do this.i didnt know i needed that last year i just did the chp inspection. went to dmv and they asked where my light and brake inspectiosn are. it only cost 40 .

i did my brake and light inspection all thats left now is the chp. What if i have a jdm motor?? i believe my tranny is a usdm and im not sure if its the orignal tranny.

 

in central cali they check for motor vin# also...but we are known for stolen cars lolz...make sure you bring all paperwork or receipts you have. did this on my old eg and i passed with miss matched colored fenders and hood. and a different motor . gl bro

 

i honestly dont remember if he looked at the motor. im just gonna say he might look for the vin on the motor . i wouldnt worry too much about just do it and see what happens. not like hes gonna take ur care right then and there

I would like to be fully prepared if questions do come up. i just want to make sure ill have all the answers the chp will ask. I didnt know i would need a reciept for the jdm motor now i know what to expect.
