Oil flow through the oil filter question
What way does the oil flow through the filter ?
Does it flow straight up through the centre and drain back down through the edges or the other way round.
If this plate below was fitted to an engine as you see it with the rubber seal touching the block, what hole would the oil come out of first ?
I ask this (and the first question) because if it flowed straight down the centre it would come out the left hole.

No, the oil flow fills the adapter from the outer ring, and the fitting on the right will have pressure to go to a remote filter or whatnot. The center part is where the oil comes out of the filter, which is connected to the left hand fitting.
