D16y7 Knock Sensor
Can anyone help me with instructions of how to remove a knock sensor off a d16y7? I need to replace mine and i bought the part, but now i dont know what to go from here cause i cant seem to locate it. I have the Civic manual book, but it doesn't say anything about d16y7 knock sensor (that's weird). So, any help would be greatful and fully appreciated. thanks.
it does... caz i went to honda dealer to buy the knock sensor and they said its located above the oil filter... and i need information from people who has done this before on a d16y7. I went to pepboys and they told me that i have to remove the intake manifold and charging me $265 and i said no caz many other people said i just have to go under the car... so whose correct and is it worth going to pepboys?
No it doesn't. How do I know? I had a D16Y7 and converted to a y7/y8 hybrid swap. Did tons of research over a few months. The D16Y7 does have the thread for the knock sensor because it is the same block as the Y8 which has the knock sensor, but the Y7 ecu doesn't utilize the knock sensor.
Yeah, I don't think it has one, either, cause when I advanced the timing when setting it, I got knocking all over the place when I advanced it a bit too much at first.
some did and some didn't! i think 96-97 doesn't but 98-00 has it.... i know cause i used a civic ex engine harness to run my swap! i just had to cutt the vtec elect tape to make it longer. then i'm useing a jdm itr ecu ....obd-2 plugs but it looks for obd-1 sensors!

No. Wrong. NONE of the 96-00 D16Y7's have knock sensors because NONE of their P2E ecu's utilize it. I have a 99 D16Y7 and it does NOT have the knock sensor. I've done tons of research on it while building my mini me swap. However the D16Y8 EX motor and ecu does require a knock sensor.

Also, when i went to Honda Dealer they thought that i y7 don't have knock sensor until they checked and i asked them where it is located at and they said 'approximately 2-3 inches above the oil filter.' the next day i checked under my car and there is a sensor there like wat honda said, but i cant say im 100 positive that it is a knock sensor. The sensor i saw had one wire running out of it, can that be the knock sensor???

Might be the oil pressure sensor you're looking at. The thread for it is right beneath the intake manifold. Not very close to the oil filter.

Thanks chowmein for all you info and comments. Ill take a look at it and post the information of what i see and do or mistakes i make. :D

did u say u had a Ex ??? i think no one else picked up on that , if u do it has a Y8 not a y7 the y8 does have a knock sensor

1996 Civc EX = D16Y8 which has a knock sensor...
If you have an EX, you have a knock sensor, and a SOHC VTEC D16Y8 (assuming it's stock). The knock sensor is located on the #2 cylinder about 1 inch below where the head meets the block. There will be a single wire connector going to it.

In that case, they must have replaced the motor with a Y7 and installed a knock sensor.

Does your engine have a vtec solenoid? It’s in the back of the engine-head (behind the valve cover) on the distributor side.

You don’t have to remove the valve cover to see it.
Mine was off because I was doing a mini-me conversion.
If you do have the solenoid, it probably means that some one messed up the bottom end and had to replace it. Since pretty much all D-series blocks are the same, it doesn’t matter which they used, as long as they replaced the pistons and threaded a hole for a knock sensor.
If your engine does not have a vtec solenoid, then it probably means that the previous owner blow the engine and replaced it with a cheaper version (non-vtec), but still left the P2P ecu, which is now throwing the code.
If you could take a picture of your engine bay from the passenger side, we could easily see if it’s a Y7 or Y8 equivalent, without even looking at the code.

since he has a Ex and his block saiz y7. we can only guess that the block has been changed and the knock sensor from the old y8 block was put in the new y7 block.
so he is now running a mini-me in his ex. I had to do the same thing with my moms car. I got her an ex with a blown motor and replaced the block with my y7 block that I left from when I did my dohc swap. so now she has a knock sensor on the y7 block.

Yeah check the head if it has a VTEC solenoid. If so then you're probably running the mini me stated above which requires a knock sensor in the y7 block IF you are running a p2p ecu. I am running that setup.

There are the pictures... now im confused. I bought this car about 6 months ago from the junk yard, so i dont really know what happen this car, only thing i knew was that this car was taken away from the driver b/c he was DUI (it said it on my DMV car report) and he had a little accident... just a broken front and back bumper. (nothing is bent or anything like that under the hood regarding from the accident) Im not very illiterate in the subject of engines and blocks. So what do i have? Do i have a vtec or non-vtec? knock sensor or no knock sensor? So what do you guys think happen to this car regarding the motor and etc thats under the hood? all information will be helpful and once again, i appreciate all your time helping me out and replying to this subject. Thanks EVERYONE.
d16 Rice - whats a mini me conversion... what do you mean?
Also, is anyone selling any rims and tires????
i was wondering maybe...
between 15's-17's with rim width of 7 - 7.5 or something around there.
Please reply with a price and size and info about it... (thread left? brand? & etc) pictures will be great. i live in southern cali, so anyone around here i would be more likely to buy it... shipping is expensive thats why. Thanks again you guys.
