What is the shortest Short-Throw Shifter?
For people that have tried several short throw shifters. What is the shortest Short-shifter? (Meaning Shifting distance)

run a stock shifter with some stiffer bushings. short shifters (really short ones) causes something in the trans to mess up. im not exactly sure what it is but a number of the cars i worked on at my job had tranny problems because of em. my boss said its similar to having a car dropped on the ground and the axles having to bend and stretch, causing them to tear a boot or break. it kinda makes sense to me cause the linkage is only so long, and when you extend the bottom of the shifter, the linkage length gets shorter. my boss, who is also my good friend, knows his **** and i believe him. just figured i share with yall

In all my years of racing, I have never heard or seen such. Shortening of the rod, does not change the linkage length. It changes the shifting length only. There is nothing changed from the bottom of the shifter to the trans.

It is because when people get short shifters they think they have to shift supa fast, but in reality if you shift like a normal person and have a short shifter you will actually be shifting faster and wont tear **** up

i was refering to the length below the pivot on the shifter. when that is longer than stock, it shortens throw and changes the angle on the linkage. hope im not confusing anyone, but the geometry of the situation makes sense to me

It makes sense but I dont see how that could screw anything in the transmission up. The throw and angle on the linkage shouldn't be a problem.

I heard they tear up the tranny too...But I just thought it was cause people are shifting too fast before the clutch is all the way in
But, I have a Skunk2 short shifter and Love it!!

Correct, by by changing leverage you can change the speed at which the shift rod moves thus reducing the distance you need to move it..
If you want to try making a short shifter then cut the part off of the bottom of the shifter and add some length to it, that will also change the leverage and make the throw shorter..

buy a b&m, trust me its worth the money. as far as short shifter busting the tranny sometimes they can mess up the syncros because your shifting to fast for the tranny to react to your clutch movement and such( hard to explain) I saw it happen on a 89 crx si
Autozone's generic brand short shifter and DC's shifter are the shortest I've had, i'm currently using the autozone cuz the shift arm is stock length, but the throw is short and the DC arm is just too damn short.
