Default B20z Vs. B20B HELP!!

Hey guys, I searched on this and couldn't find anything that would help.

I'm looking to build a CR-VTEC conversion, and I have heard conflicting information about B20's. Right now I am watching auctions for a GSR Bare-block, and a B20Z bare-block. I have some questions.

I have heard that you cannot rev B20 frankensteins very hard because the block was not meant to handle that kind of stress. Is this true? If so, what should I cap my redline at?

If I were to pick up the B20Z bare-block, could I put a B20b crank into it with no problems? Why or why not?

What are my options if I were to pick up the GSR block, I know they can handle more abuse, but GSR heads are EXPENSIVE!! Would it make sense to throw a B16a head on that or would that just be redundant? Yes I am a n00b to engine building.

Finally, I read something on one of my searches on B20z's, and one guy said he picked one up hoping to pass "smog" but that wouldnt happen. What is a "smog citation" and why would you violate it by having a B20z block?

Thanks!!

The B20Z has a higher compression than a B20B, and other than that, they are the same. I was going to swap a B20 into my teg for an all motor application and found that you wouldnt be able to pass smog because of the emissions from the B20. The motor is branded as a "light truck" motor, and will not pass emissions unless you are tested by somebody very crooked. In order to make a "Frankenstein" you need to mate a Vtec head onto the B20 block, but it gets more complicated then that. You were right about not being able to rev the motor above its original redline because they were not meant for such high rpm. There are plenty of write ups on this, I suggest you do a search and delete your post before a few of the hardcore ******** read your question, so SEARCH
