NA for autocrossing. Turbos are just not suited for a fwd autocrosser. Too much lag, too much burning up the inside tire when the boost does arrive.

NA all the way. Easier to drive and you'll probably be quicker. My N/A Eclipse regularly beat up the fwd turbo Eclipses of any year. I even made the AWDs feel bad.

No complaints with my N/A sohc 1.6. It's been known to completely demolish turbo car owners who thought they were fast just because they had a turbo. Seriously, save your money and figure out how to drive first. A turbo will be completely useless your first season.

Don't forget the issues of classing. If you're not serious about it and don't expect to be too competitive most people won't mind if you run your swapped motor in, say STS. Running a turbo however, is a little too obvious and will most likely get you bumped up to a modified class even if you aren't competitive whatsoever.

EDIT: If you are serious about it, I would suggest holding off on the engine swap until you attend a few events. Then, you can decide if you actually would like to be able to win. If so, then pick a class that favors your vehicle type/yearly income and build for that. If you don't mind losing, then modify your car to your own tastes and don't worry about classing.

You'll change your mind about a turbo by then if you stay with Solo.

Yeah at my last event in Gainsville there was this white GSR with a turbo. He burnt off nearly all his tread cause of lack of traction in 1st and 2nd gears. Thru the entire course you could hear the boost and spinning tires and squealing. And after all that his times weren't even that great.

Being a better driver will win in Auto-X, not the Hp in your car.

Sort of off topic ... but Matt's comments reminded me of the time (I had to look this up in the way-back machine) I thumped him by .030 seconds -- him in his Eclipse and me in "Fluffy," a now-dead AWD Talon. I didn't feel bad.

Hmm which are better...Dunlop D40M2s, or Firestone Firehawk GTAs ...

Don't let the smooth taste fool you. Despite the fact that it says he was on Potenzas, I'm 99% sure they were really BFG R1s.

Now were getting waaaaay OT....

Wow. You guys did get 0wned by a GS-R. Hell, so did Starnes (who was driving an Accord automatic at the time, IIRC). Don't remember if I was on R1s at the time or not.

That was probably the last time I drive faster than Starnes...ever.

Damn! you out paxed me by .006!

I don't remember you showing up to the G-stock gun battle with a pocket knife. A class that showcased the talents of Oscar, Mike Green, Kauffman and that damn Messenhiemer kid.

Roll-A-Sentra? What's that?

Slipping clutch, man. Slipping clutch! Oh, and we (Scott Willard, the car owner, and I) not only unhooked a spark plug wire, we removed a spark plug entirely! And just for fun, we ran tire pressures of 10 psi left-front, 92 psi RF, 27.5 psi LR, and 45 psi RR. We also decided to run the course in 5th gear (it was b!tch to launch, but after that it wasn't too bad). I also did all my runs with the e-brake yanked as far up as it would go.

Roll-A-Sentra? What's that?
I was wondering how long it'd take you to notice that.

I asked a board member what all this "Roll an R" and "Roll a hatchback" stuff was...apparently it's a euphamism for a "kill."

Well, seeing how I'll be on street tires and Wearever brake pads this weekend (won't even mention the full interior) if you don't "Roll A Sentra" this weekend, I'm taking your car away from you.
