Default Flywheels

Alright so Im getting a new clutch and the place where Im getting it installed (King Motorsports) said that they can lighten my flywheel 7 lbs and balance it for $125. Is this a good deal and how much time will it shave off of my 1/4 mile time. Currently I am low 15 with intake and exhaust on a 96 GSR

lightened (not lightweight) flywheels are prone to failure. You do not want to be in that car if/when a chunk of metal spinning at 6,000+ rpm decides to disintegrate and shatter. I would stay away, or buy an aftermarket (clutchmasters, etc) flywheel.

Also, if your goal is to decrease 1/4 mile times, a lightweight flywheel will only hurt your times on a N/A car that does not have torque to spare. There is much less rotational inertia (potential energy) to transfer to the wheels upon take off, and your car will bog off the line and it will be hard to launch. Lightweight flywheels work great in engines with lots of torque, or a big turbo that needs to spool quickly - or on an autocross/road race car where launches are not a critical part of your performance (excluding ProSolo's).
