Street Mod 2?
Very cool... I ask becuase another local was trying to suggest that the ITR was a "sports car platform" and would not be legal for SM....
As far as SM2 goes.... I have wanted to build a 1g CRX street car (with a motor swap), but there has been no street class up to this point.
Thanks for the input.

Anything is legal for SM except two seaters which go into SM2
- 2 seaters
- 6.0L and larger motors
- FI'ed motors over 3.0L
None of those are legal in SM

The weight limit is based on the specific output of the particular car in question. What we were talking about is potentially eligible cars in SM.
SM2 will include all the cars not allowed in SM. This includes 2 seaters, FI over 3.0L and over 6.0L cars such as the Vipers. I predict someone will come out with a 600HP BP C4 or C5 with a full interior and whoop up in that class.

Not too heavy...
Nothing 600 hp and 315mm section width tires can't help. I've personally seen some incredibly quick Corvettes on an autocross course.

I think a 2700-pound super-charged big-braked JRZ-shocked monster-hoosier'ed NSX would be a force to be reckoned with in SM2. Although I'd have to read the interior rules again... That kind of weight reduction might not be possible in that class.

Auto-x is not so much about brute power or for that matter brute anything -- transitory responce and overall balance is more important.
You have never driven a properly set up C4 have you?
Thanks to Mike Dishman for that drive.
Well - Some people say different but I have a super-hard time believing that a Miata with a 5.0L stuffed in the front of it is going to have anything resembling balance and transition ability.
hmm... what about a Miata with a built 5.0 in it? One of those old Monster Motorsports conversion deals. Or maybe a new MRS swapped with a 3S-GTE...
As for A-Stock.... I think if someone woke up and found a late-model NSX coupe to run in A-Stock, they'd just totally clean up. Expensive just to win a-stock, though. I'd give it a shot locally if I didn't have headers (which are too much of a pain to take off). Oh wait, this is the Competition forum, not the NSX forum. Sorry.
Seriously, though. 290hp, 6-speed, excellent handling... It'd be a serious contender. Biggest disadvantage versus the vette is front tire size, but it makes up for that with better suspension geometry and mid-engine handling. In stock class, you'd be hard-pressed to fit anything bigger than a 225/45/16 under the front end.-Mike
IMO, whether it be SM or SM2, an 84-87 Civic/CRX prepared somewhere along the lines of John Thomas's EP 86 Civic, would kill just about everything, assuming of course driver talent is along the lines of John Thomas too, hehe
...and that's a BIG assumption...

-Steve (who will be running his prepped M coupe in SM2 this year).
Ahhh.... you have seen the light!
1st Gen CRX with an LS or B16 swap and some ballast to make the balance perfect. Of course it would require Integra brakes and all of the suspension work, but you could drive it daily, own on the track, and spend less than $5000 to build it!
Good discussion however.
I love the intent of the Street Mod class.... "The purpose of this class is to allow the maximum amount of creativity while maintaining streetability" - that's like an engineer's wet dream.

I very well may be going tins way this coming season. THe $2002 challenge car is an 86 CRX DX converted to FI with an 87 Integra driveline/brakes/hubs/etc and a Garett T3, etc with GC's, and Konis. I think I can do reasonably well, I just need an LSD to put the power to the ground.

my CRX will be eligable for SM2 this year, but i dunno. it has a b16a in the garage. going to be dropped in soon..
oh, and btw, last year with my motor being all stock except an exhaust, i have kyb AGX shocks, skunk2 springs, and khumo 185/60-14 tires. i was able to beat a viper all day long by about 2 seconds. PROVES YOU DON'T NEED POWER IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE!!
in fact, the fastest cars we really have out here is BS miata's. they are about only 2 seconds of FTD.
