97 accord lx 4cycl crank oil seal
Desert,
Hello friend, there is an update to the usual crank seal that you are talking about, you can no longer see the gar-lock spring from the rear open area. It is sealed completely and the is a metal ring completely enclosing the guts of the seal, now understanding the updated seal, the metal part still goes to the engine side.
I use a hammer and large socket of the same O.D. of the seal to start to press it into place, then I use a 1/4" or 3/8" extension to drive it somewhat deeper into the hole, a little deeper than flush with the outer edge of the crank hole in the block. You may wish to use some loctite or RTV around the outer diameter but it also is not required.
