I search a little and found out i can do a few things.
1. Check spark plugs
2. See if oil is extremely black
3. Check for metal shavings in the trans fluid
Anymore guys?????????

Checking the oil is a good thing to do, also remove the oil cap and have a look on the bottom for traces of white goop, that'll tell you that the headgasket is blown badly and mixing coolant and oil. If the oil is really black, you'll be able to tell the engine probably wasn't maintained as well as it should have been.
If you can pull the valve cover off, you'll be able to tell how often the oil was changed by the amount of deposits on the parts inside the head.

do a compression test. I know its way more of a PITA to do while the engine's out but compression tests tell a lot about an engine.

Compression, leak down, remove oil pan and check bearings, inspect clutch (If you find heat spots caused by hard launches, or find a burnt up six puck, then well, ya know), check for signs of leaking.
