Default Dad is getting a new civic hybrid next week or so...

I figure this would be a good place to ask.

What are the pros and cons?

Also, how does it compare to the Accord Hybrid?

Thanks

-Mike

He wants gas mileage and an overall nice ride.

He's probably going to go with the Civic. I'm just wondering if there are some things he should look out for concerning the Civic Hybrid. He really does like the power of the Accord, but I don't think it'll be enough to justify buying one.

The hybrid will only return it's value in about 3 years of average use. Even with higher gas milage now, you normally pay for more with teh value of the car.

He'll end up saving money either way.

He currently has a FX35 which gets 1/3 of the mileage and costs twice as much monthly.

My dad recently bought the civic hybrid.

He loves it, barely burnt a 1/4 tank of gas after 200 miles lol. Its a very practical car of course, I don't think you can go wrong. Honda has been in the hybrid game for a while now too so I doubt any reliability issues will surface. The warranty is also longer on the electric components I believe.

.......I couldnt help but notice how much room there is in that engine bay for a turbo

don't you have to replace the batteries every 3 years? i've heard this through word of mouth, and they also said the batteries cost you a pretty penny...wouldn't that offset the gas $ you save?

batteries are about2-3thousand dollars....just because its not mainstream yet....remember when pentium 1 90mhz computers with 8mb ram cost you almost 2000$?

the only benefit to having a civic hybrid over a civic ex sedan is the nicer interior and lip spoiler. otherwise, the fuel savings, money wise, won't really add up to the additional cost of the car. the accord hybrid is very nice, loaded inside and quite powerful. i think it really comes down to the price he wants to pay and what size he wants.

its actually longer then that if you really count it.

but on the other hand the point to buying a hybrid car is to save gas which is a natural resource and is running low. So when you buy a hybrid you help save the oil.

Also the batteries have a 10 year 150K warrenty from honda.

Also looking at the replacement cost now is dumb b/c its like looking at a cell phone battery 10 years ago. By the time you will need to get one their will be tons more hybrids out and the cost of the battery will go down by A LOT. Also i know for a fact that honda has yet to replace a hybrid battery or sell one i think(not sure about the sell part)

Miron

let me know if you guys have any questions or wanna buy a honda/acura in the bay area hehe

dont get the hybrid if u want to save gas. it doesnt and wont save more gas then a regular civic. when driving on highway, it uses the gas engine. sure its got a smaller gas engine but if ur gonna keep it with the speed of traffic, ur gonna gas it and the higher rpm means more gas spent. the electronis motor only kicks in in stop and go traffic so it will only help if ur gonna do lots of stop and go. both consumer report magazine and cars and drivers did reigorous tests comparing the hybrid civics and the regular civics and mpg were so close, they closed the report saying that the closeness of the two comparasion was a result of driving habits among its drivers.

the main point of a HYBRID car is not 2 save gas money, its b/c it often more freindly 2 the enviornment and will help save oil which is a limited resource. my customers get on average 43 MPG on the civic hybrid, and yes that does help when u drive 20-25k a year. im not saying the car is for every one. **** if you only keep cars for 3-5 years and only drive 12k a year no **** ur not gonna save any money, but their are people that drive 20+ a year and the civic hybrid will help. Also you have to earn to drive the car so it gets the better gas milage and you can ask any hybrid owner that at first they get like 30MPG and then after a couple of months the milage goes up a lot.

The civic hybrid is a great car. I might not be right for you but Honda built a great car with great gas milage so lets support it
