Default The Right Time To Buy An R?

As most know I'm in the market for a 00/01 R and am very serious about buying. Lately though, I am having serious doubts as to whether my money will be best spent by purchasing this car. This doubt comes from a lack of information. I know for a fact that the Lancer Evo is coming in January of next year and that a Subaru STi equvilant should show up as well to compete with the Lancer. The RSX-R, on the other hand, I have no information on but I am fairly certain they will bring it over. The problem is that the Evo will start at an estimated 25k and I am almost paying 22k for a used R.

As much as I love the R, even though I dont own one, I dont think it compares to AWD turbo, and for 3k more I could have that.

I would really appreciate some advice as to whether I should wait till the competition gives the states their new car models or whether I should just spend my money on the great R.

TIA

Expect the EVO VII or STi to be more in the $28-$29k range... Great cars most likely (I want the EVO myself), but it will be a lot more than a used '00-'01 ITR even with low mileage.

I know of a nice '00 FBP ITR with only 9400 miles. He really needs to sell it. He bought an M Coupe without selling his car first.

I guess it depends on what you want...most people in the US will be buying the EVO/STi for drag racing anyway. ITR should still be more tossable on the road course and do a little better in autox.

You can't compare AWD cars fairly to FWD cars. Apples to oranges.

The Subaru and Lancer are based on sedans - whereas the Integra is a hatchback.

The Subaru and Lancer that you are talking about are also turbocharged. The Integra is a all motor car - that should stay all motor imo.

How old are you? Have you looked into insurance rates for these dream cars of yours?? Expect to be in the most expensive insurance class for all of your choices.

haha. I have to disagree with you there Ross. I personally would buy an EVO for daily driving...maybe have some fun at a RallyX.

Just because I`m selling my R doesn`t mean I`m biased but......

I wouldn`t wait solely on the notion that either one of those cars will be under $30,000. I take a "I`ll believe it when I see it" attitude towards the mountain of pre-hype from the car manufacturers. And then you`ll have the dealerships adding a little (or alot) "extra" on top of the sticker price just like the s2000.

BTW, I`ll sell my R for $21,000 and/or
...just thought I`d throw that in there....
I have to sell by 3/01 or I`m dead.

I agree, I think both the EVO and STi will be upwards of $35K once you add things like boost gauge, spoiler, etc.

EVO, STI, RSX-S are all nice cars but they are not the Type R. I drove a WRX the other day. Fast? HELL YEAH! But it handles like my 88 CRX SI. Type S is nicer than the ITR, but is more of a date car nice interior, and sound system. So you have to ask yourself do you want straight line speed, a date car, or the very raw ITR?

The Type R has only one purpose... Road Racing!

Not really, all three are performance cars. Besides, you can compare any car to any other car, people do it all the time when deciding what kind of car to buy.

To the original poster:

My advice is to decide on what you want out of a car and how much you're willing to spend. I wouldn't count on being able to get out the door for less than 30k on either the STi or EVO, which tends to make the ITR look cheap at 23k.

If you drive hard all the time, be aware that Subaru and Mitsu AWD drivelines are easy to break. It's not that they're unreliable, it's just that AWD cars are easier to abuse and don't take to it as well as 2wd cars.
