Default Failed emissions...Need some advice to lower HCs...

Fully Built 2.0L B18C1 with just a basic N/A setup for emissions and a brand new cat. I have a stock P72 maps in my hondata, car runs great, and shows 14.7 at cruise, but still I failed the HCs.

I even drove the car for a good hard 45minutes.

There might be trace amounts of race gas, but I don't think that would be enough to do anything.

The limits are 2.5, and I had something like 5.##.

Any ideas?

New O2 sensor, different gas..ect?

drop some heet in ur gas...can get it at autozone. That or just drop acetone in! Basically same chemical formula as gas. works everytime

Methanol or Ethanol works great. You can safely run up to 10% (some will say more) without hurting anything. The engine will run a touch lean but at least 10% of the fuel you will be burning will have NO hydrocarbons hehe. You might also consider yanking some serious fuel pressure out of it before you head in. Yank enough fuel out of the thing and you should pass just fine.

Then he's going to have issues with too much NOX due to the lean condition.

1 bottle of "Guaranteed to pass emissions" (http://www.crcindustries.com or autozone), half tank of Premium, spark plug gap 0.060", ignition timing retarded ALL the way.

i think you got the wrong gas, hc's should be normal around and less than 100...... maybe your thinking of CO or even 02? but to high hc's is a misfire(even if you can't feel it its there all cars have a slight misfire most you just can't feel) hc's are unburnt fuel....if i had the readings i could probably help you out some more.

High HC is misfire, weak spark, leaky injector, fuel pressure too high, stuck fuel pressure regulator, vaccuum leak, leaky intake valves, and many more. Opening spark gap and retarding timing for the test only would fix the problem unless it's an injector or valve.

Nope, our emissions are just scalled differently from what i've seen from Smog, and other places. I've even seen HCs, and COs...ect in %s, instead of #s.

The limits for my HC is 2.5, and I was running 5.3.

I'm going to advance the timing a degree or 2 (larger bore, and low compression), take out a few PSI of fuel pressure, fill up a 1/4 tank of 85, and add a lil splash of the acetone.

You don't want to do it the way I told you? Guarantee to pass...no?

Only if I fail...again. I don't need to do much work for those previous things, but your method would require some work..
