Default Civic 90 1.5 motor missing on acceleration

Hi everyone I am new to the site. I have been a Toyota man for 20 years so I no a lot about Toyota's but do not know squat about Hondas. Well I bought this 90 Civic with 98000 miles on it from a young guy for 350 dollars. He said he needed the money and the car did require some TLC. Front brakes ( CALIPERS<ROTORS<PADS and a front passenger side CV axel) So I think 300 -400 for parts and 350 for the car with 98000 on it lifes good.Well no sooner I start using the Civic for work and it won't start . Sometimes it will sometimes it won't.After much research I find that something called the Main Relay goes defective on these cars.Well I search some more and find the part is 50 clams. Then I happen on this site that most times you can fix the main relay yourself just with a little soider remover tool and a fine tip soidering iron. Well I did that and now it always starts . But It seems that I had a 2 folded problem now that the car always starts apon acceleration it misses.Or just ideling and warm step on the gas hard and it sputter some time back thru carb. I have replaced fuel filter plugs plug wires and resoidered main relay . I am open for any educated thought on the subject. My next course of action is going to replace DIST from a site on ebay for 156 $ life time warrnty and suposedly it is been modified to resist heat better than OEM. After that fuel pump assembly so it looks like my 750 $ car is going to cost about 1750 when done with no promise that it will run correctly. I must say the Civic is way more fun to drive than the Corolla's I have owned including a tricked out 04. Well that being said I would realy be thankful for any help. Thanks Dave

I forgot to add maybe a critical part. It seemed not to mis until yesterday after fixing the main rela. I took it for a test drive and got on it pretty good. Any further thought knowing that? Thanks Dvae

I would like to add that I just pulled the top cover off of the timing belt and it looks in good shape .No fraying cracking and it has good tension not to say it couldnt slip but it looks unlikely. any help would be great Dave
