on a SOHC vtec motor. at first it ran okae.. nothing wrong with it. You would not be able to tell its off. It didn't detonate and drove fine.. but after a while driving, it started detonating really bad. Can anybody tell me why it only started detonating after a while of driving and not right away? Maybe the carbon buildup on the piston tops was being burned off at first.??

 

I don't think the quesiton you're asking is important at all. The real question is why did you install your timing belt incorrectly and what can you do to make sure it doesn't happen ever again.

This is the real question at hand. If you knew it was off, why did you go driving it? That's just asking for trouble.

 

Why would you waste the time making this post instead of setting your timing belt back to factory spec? I cant wait to see your next post"why is my engine knocking after i drove around weth detonation"

 

at first.. it ran perfectly. You couldnt' tell it was off a tooth, thats why i drove around in it for 30 minutes or so. I already fixed it, seems to run good. no problem. I just wanted to know why it took so long to start detonating and not right away.

 

Yeah, it was detonating becuase the timing was off...

Did you fix it?
