How hard is it to install a cap and rotor on a 97 gsr motor?
have a eg with gsr in it just got a new cat amd rotor how hard are they to intall should i get a shop to do it for me ? please let me know thanks
it's extremely easy, if you know how to use a screwdriver.
the cap is held on by 3 screws. remove them. don't disconnect the plug wires.
just set the cap with wires attached to the side for now.
the rotor can be tricky. the screw may or may not be visible. you can either rock the car back and forth until it rotates to a spot where you can get to it.
or you can go and try to start the motor, but just keep doing quick taps on the ignition until it gets to where it needs to be. down side is it's going to dump alot of fuel into the cylinder. not a problem if you only do this a couple of times. if you have to turn the key more than 3 times, try rocking the car.
once you can see the screw, remove it. then pull the rotor off and put the new one on. reinstall the screw.
now put the new cap on, with the new o-ring (provided with the cap) and install the 3 screws.
now, one by one, remove the plug wires from the old cap and install them in the correct position on the new cap.
you're done, that's it. usually takes me 10 minutes or so, depending how long it takes to get to the rotor screw.

Replacing the cap and rotor is about the same difficulty as changing oil/filter or sparkplugs.. I'd rate it somewhere between ridiculously and stupidly easy.
