Default Collapsing Craters?

On the odd occasion I lay out a descent bead and all of a sudden the entire bead almost collapses into a crater like line.

Anyone know what causes that ?

Copper filler would be your problem.

No, umm, ER71 is a fine filler for mild steel. You're gas is ok.

What are the dimensions of the base metal? Are you 100% sure the base metal is mild steel?

Perhaps you're not cleaning it enough and getting porosity on the inside of the weld.
