Default I'm looking into buying a CRX...

I hope I dont get flamed for this thread because all I am trying to do is get do research first

I have heard of the H22A swap and I am just wondering, the engine does bolt on to the transmission right?
How much should I expect to pay for this engine if I was to ever look into getting it?
Can the engine's internals handle a turbo/supercharger?

What are the most common problems with CRXs of the years of 1984-1991?

K > H > B > D
Where K/H = 8-10 on a scale of fabrication + $$ needed

B = 5-7 for locating all the necessary parts and the $$ needed

D = 1-4 Since even the fastest D will bolt right in, and building it is something my 12 y/o brother has some knowledge of.

If you've got 10k, get a K/H swap. Isn't cheap, not the best for a daily driver. But these are the motors that put EF's well into the 11s with minimal modifications.
If you've got 2-4k, get a B series. Very reliable if wired correctly and rather easy to make quick and everybody and their mother has worked on one and can give ya some help if you need it.

If you've got $100-$800 get a D series motor/trans. They're extremely inexpensive to even the poorest of college students. My Mother could perform a major tune up on one and probably swap one too. They're abundant and if you break it, which if your on this site and looking for swap info; your more than likely going to. They're rather easy to replace.

Oh yeah, forgot to answer the common problems question.

1] Rust
2] Rust
3] Beat chassis
4] Rust
5] Si Sunroofs are always timid and try to stay closed.
6] DX's are DPFI which need wiring knowledge to 'repair'
7] HF's don't get ***** unless its quick or damn good looking
8] Find a nice interior because they're becoming rare in these cars

All I can think of atm.

Alright, three more noobish questions

1. How hard would it be to find a SI?
2. I see the D series engine/tranny is the cheapest and easiest to bolt on, how much power do they make and can they take the beating of forced induction or would I have to change/forge some of the internals.
3. Why is the D Series so cheap?

DO NOT try to fit a h22 into a crx ESPESIALLY if this is your FIRST swap

Along side my other questions, what are other common swaps for the CRX? What is the most recommended swap?

K > H > B > D
i woudlnt even say that, h series can be pretty strong

but ya

si's arent like extremely hard to find, but the hardest part is just finding a clean, with no rust/dents of that such on them. that and clean interior is also harder and harder to find.

d series are cheap cause for starters, they arent the strongest motor out there, they bolt right into the engine bay, needs no extra modding or customizing

but u can boost d series to have some power, i dont really know much about d series, but from other people on this site, u can get them to have some decent power

i wouldnt even go h series for ur first motor, specially in a ef. too much customing and modding to the bay. the actual h22 engine is only like ~2k but its a hela work to get that hoe in ur ef.

if u dont have a lot of money, stick with d series

or if u wanna save, get a little more bang for ur buck, go with b series, any b series is gonna have more stock power than d series. the b16a1 and b18b are great starting motors for b series.

How much hp/tq do the b16a1 and b18b engines offer?
I got a question about the aftermarket support for the CRX on a b16a1 or b18b engine
Is it possible to get to atleast 220hp/tq without going with forced induction?
What type of engine mods would be needed to get to 12s?
Infact, how much hp/torque would be needed to get to 12s?
What bolt-ons or other types of modifications would you guys recommend other than forced induction?

EDIT:

E-racing?

Say I keep everything stock except the engine (B18C5), what times should I expect to run? What cars should I be able to beat? Mustangs? Camaros?

it will still depend on alot of things altitude driver weather traction ect. and what year and model crx u have really light 88 hf or the fat bastard 90 91 si's . with the c5 probably between low 13's to low 14's , You can look around on here and find people with similar setups to what u want and search and put times in and u will get alot of results

Oh my god...

You really think we can tell it, i know your enthuasim. But hey, slow down. Study something before.

You can make almost every car run fast. Just a matter of money, skill, money and intrest.

Rip your fast and the furious attitude.

I dont have a Fast and Furious attitude. I'm just new to cars that weigh 2000lbs.
My last car was a GS Mazda MX3 which wieghed about 2500lbs and with a V6 KLZE engine (200hp/160ft torque) the car would be able to run mid/high 14s.
Seeing how even a 91 SI CRX weighs about 500lbs lighter, I am just wondering what it could do with a B18C5

I see that the B16A cost about $1750.00 and the B18C cost $3149.00.
Why does the B18C cost alot more than the B16A? There is only a +10hp and +13ft torque difference?

You answered your question right there, it costs more because of the additional HP/TQ and the .2 liters more.

The b18c1 is out of a GSR which is one of the most sought after B series engines. But the B16a is also a great motor too, either one has a lot of potential, its just the B18c is a little quicker.
