HKS sport exhaust possibly choking the b20?
Hey guys, i'm getting ready to swap the 97-98 b20 into my EF.....i'm also planning on getting the HKS sport exhaust, for peformance and also for looks.....one thing worries me though. If i'm not mistaken, the HKS is 2 1/4" piping, i'm planning on swapping on the b16 head, and the normal bolt-ons (i/h) with some mild cams also, but I got to worrying if the HKS could possibly choke the b20.....and opinions or experience? Thank you!
Heres the exhaust for those of you who haven't seen it.

I think that would be a bit small have you looked at Apexi World Sport thats what my friend is getting for his EK with B20 he had a custom exhaust but he has a hole in it so he's getting the WS.
Hm, i'm looking at it right now on optionsauto.com. It doesn't look like the piping is any bigger diameter than the hks.........or is it? Thats also a option I guess, but I like how the hks looks a lot more.
i wonder if there's a certain way to determine what size piping you need?... or is it just by experience?
(also building EF, so i'd like to see if anyone has experience with the HKS)

I have a hks exhaust on my ef with a b16 and it did mininal for performance gains. You might want to look into something else if you performance. Its a nice exhaust but the pipping is like 1.96inches I believe.
if you're planning on making an ls/vtec later on i suggest you pass on the hks for the EF. 50mm will choke it especially when you get the b16 head on there. just order a 2.25" pipe setup from kteller and get an ES oval or any other axle back that is 2.25" most exhaust setups for the EF chassis will be on the smaller end as far as diameter goes, remember they design exhaust systems for oem engines.

well i'd probably rather run a 2.5 on a b20vtec setup..
but it's not like a 2.25 is going to freaking "CHOKE" it or anything,
just might get alil more power/throttle response with the fatter exhaust..
it'll still be better than stock

And why they do this is beyond me. After all, when it comes to modded ED/EF Civics/CRXs, stock-engined cars are the rarest cars of all.
