Default GSR, LS, or B16 tranny?

I search the forum but only found one thread that has a little info on this. Which wasn't really helpful in the first place so here I am another LS-vtec question. What is the best tranny to setup a LS-vtec with b16 head and why?

try these:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1219617

and there were like 60 other helpful threads throughout the forum (integra/eg delsol/ef crx/)

my suggestion would be gsr trannys...you won't have to cruise at 4500rpm like you would with the b16 trans, and at the same time you'll have better acceleration thant the b18b trans

Im thinking about going with the b16 tranny because it has faster acceleration but the only bad part is crusing at 70mph or 80 mph around 4-4500 rpm....... It eat a lot of gas ...... I know i own one. But as far as pricing i can get one for $300 with rebuilt internals so thats a deal i cant get with gsr tranny... by the way has anyone dyno or know how many whp they make with ls-vtec setup: b18b, b16head, b16 tranny. One more question how do i make the b16 rev higher than 8200 rpm, is it through the ecu chip?

b16 tranny defintly has the same gear ratio has a type R with out the lsd.... if u race at the track its a great tranny for thr 1/4 if u just like to *** around on the highway an ls trans will own lol

yea I heard its because of the long fifth gear ratio that the ls have. Another thing a friend of mine broke his tranny at the track ..... which he was running 12.6 but after changing the tranny to a lsd ls tranny he hit 12.4 so if the ls tranny has a long gear ratio why does he have a better 1/4 time than when he had the gsr tranny. Friends Ek setup: GSR turbo : type R camshaft , skunk 2 cams spraklet, JG intake manifold, CP piston, t3/t4 turbo....... He said the LS was a better tranny and I always thought the LS tranny is shitty and we are talking about a quarter mile race here so why does he run better with the ls tranny than the best of both world tranny aka GSR

how do you think a b16 tranny would perform if the rev limiter be raised to 9500?

well the reason is because i have an si b16 tranny myself and its eating a whole lotta gas due to its gear ratio 4500 at 80 mph... and im going to buy another b16 tranny for 3 bill but I want a longer 5th gear do to driving back and forth to the freeway for work. So if I was wondering if im doing a ls vtec setup using b16 tranny which is fast for racing but drastically high in rpm why not swap the ls 5th gear to the b16 that way I have a fast 1-4th gear and long 5th gear sound awesome to me. The only thing im not sure is the cost. I think i'll be able to get the ls 5th gear from a friend for cheap but if not able to what will be the cost of doing an LS 5th gear swap?

It's worth it to people that want acceleration at sane speeds, but are willing to sacrifice acceleration in 5th for practicality. How often do you go 110+ MPH? I rarely do.

Go for it. I was forced to drive at 4500+ RPM for 1k miles once and I hated it (gas mileage - 29 MPG).

I think you're getting the misconception that an LS 5th gear will make you accelerate faster. The gearing is longer and will therefore make you accelerate slower.

I am not a honda guru but let me say this. If fuel consumption is more dependent on your throttle position and not the engine RPM, is it safe to say that the difference between the gsr tranny and the si tranny is significant? You would drop down from 4500 to 4000 RPM. I think you should keep your si tranny in there.

the only thing I could think of is he has one less shift to do while with the ls trans, the b16 or gsr trans would require a shift into fourth gear to finish the 1/4, while the LS tran could finish it in 3rd, thereby saving some time not shifting that third time.
that's all I could think of, someone please let me know if I'm offbase
