Default 85 Lude, help!

Ok I just bought a 1985 Prelude for a good price as my daily.
It is a carb and it not running.

It cranks; however, does not start. I sprayed Carb starter fluids so it goes for a bit but then when I stop spray... it goes back to only 'crank'.

Thus I believe it has something to do with fuel... either fuel line/filter clogged or fuel pump is bad.

I am basically a newbie to ludes, especially a 85 model.

I got a Haynes manuall; however, would like some help as far as uninstalling and installed the listed parts.

Any other ideas of what it may be, or could look into?
Perhaps any tips to make ease of uninstalling and installing the parts?
Colored pics and what nots?

Thanks

You saying when you use the starter fluid it fires up, but then stops? That would indicate bad gas or clogged lines/filter like you suggested. You've ruled out air and spark because it runs on the starter fluid.

You can remove the spark plugs and crank the car and see if any fuel is spraying first. If not, start tracing it back from the fuel rail. I'm not sure about the '85, but in general start at the injectors and work back.

As far as pictures, I'm just going to give you the link to the SanLeandro honda website because I like their diagrams so much. It might help.

You do know that he has a base model which utilized dual side-draft carbs, not the fuel injected Si model correct?

I would love to help you, as i had an 86 base myself, but i never ran into fuel/starting problems, therefore my knowledge is fairly limited (and quite hazy). But still, if it does start on started fluid, then try checking the fuel system for clogged lines like stated above.

Oh, btw, back when i was into my 2nd gen, i used to surf preludepower.com's 2nd gen forum, quite a few knowledgable 2nd genners in there, i would definately check that out. Hope this helps and good luck.

Oops, never even thought about the lack of injectors. The link above goes to the carb'd model, so maybe that will help him.
When I searched around earlier today I saw this same guy posted on some other forums. But not preludepower.com, which is definitely the best 2nd gen site.

Thanks guys, I will check there and yea I wish I had PMFI; however, I already got a car that has that (my Integra GSR ^_^) This will be my daily more, once I get this fixed. It cranks like mentioned, it is the dual car versin (1985) just I would like to know more possible 'pointers/advice/help' as where to check for the clog first so it be easier in the long run.
oh and this is a 5-speed version.

Intead of having to take the gas tank, pump, all that 'more time consuming work' when it may be solved easier.

Thanks
