93 Accord Ex with Oil pressure problem
I have a 93 Honda Accord Ex. Recently it has been giving me problems. It will drive and act normal for about 10-15 minutes of driving then. (Yes I checked the oil level) When I am at a stop light the oil light will begin to flicker at first eventually it will come on and stay on. It only comes on when the engine is idling, as soon as I hit the gas the light goes off.... Please leave me any information you can on this subject... As well when I was talking with this guy that claimed to be a honda mechanic he said it was my tranny going out???? Not too sure about that....
engine oil lite flickers and your mechanic said what ??? your tranny is going out???? man this guy must work out of a zoo do not take car there again ,,,,,,
you said oil level is ok,, any noise from lower end??? any damage in oil pan hit a rock >> pan pushed in ?? is the oil clean ?? if all is ok first thing i would do is replace oil pressure sending unit and oil filter ,,

He is not really my mechanic just some guy I met in the parking lot that said he was a honda mechanic. The thing is it started slowly at first it would only happen once in a while now it has gotten to the point it is every time I drive it more than 15 mins....
The oil pressure sending unit is above the oil filter, you might want to check and see if it is leaking. Common problem with those years of Accords
There are four conditions which can cause this effect, all of which revolve around oil pressure and don't normally require things leaking.
1) Thin oil: when it heats up from operation it thins out and can't retain internal oil pressure.
2) Worn / Marginal oil pump: because of pressure lose from excessive clearances, the pump can't produce oil pressure at low rpms (idle)
3) Worn / inaccurate oil pressure sensor
4) Worn bearings / internal oil pressure loss. As bearings wear, oil clearances become excessive allowing oil pressure loss at idle
A heavier oil viscosity can mask the condition, but you really should address the cause.

Oh, as far as that "mechanic" you met; Run, Run very quickly and do not look back!
