well yesterday my dad took the car on a road trip and he comes back and from a 500 mile round trip it only read he put 200 on it...so i pounded the top hard and it started workin again...this **** is getting old, i bet the car is missing a few thousand miles! what can i do about this. i hear its a common problem with 5th gen accords...thx

possible loose connection on back of instrument cluster thus when you are hitting it ,, it might move around to make connection why dont yopu remove it and chk things back there instead of getting frustrated and hitting the top of the dash ,,i mean it is not going to fix itself by you hitting it
same thing happened to mine, but when it did work, or if it decided to it would reach 20MPH and wouldnt go any higher, i got a new odometer put in and it works fine now, never really found out what it was though...sorry

I had someone do it for me who is a certified mechanic and he had to put some big orange sticker on the door jam that said how many miles were on the odometer when they took it out....

Pull the entire cluster out, remove the connectors and use a very good electrical contact cleaner and spray the slots where the plugs contact the printed circuits. You may have a loose wire in one of the connectors or a poor solder on the circuit back there, see if you can trace out the circuit for the ODO. good luck.
