Default high rpm sudden power loss

just thought i'd post my question here too and see if i can get any more suggestions. basically, the engine abruptly cuts off at around 7,000 rpm (accord - h22a - 5 speed) in 2nd/3rd/4th gear. it doesn't happen in neutral or 1st, so i know it can't be a rev limiter (not to mention i'm running a chipped ecu with a raised rev limiter). but whenever i give it throttle in any of those mentioned gears and reach 6.5 or 7k... the tach needle starts getting a bit jumpy and then BAM.. it just feels like i hit a wall or something.. there's a loud sound and the car jerks... the revs drop for a split second.. and then all of a sudden i regain control again.. and the car drives normally.

i've tried switching ecus and it happens with the stock p13 as well as the p28 chip. i was thinking it could be ignition related (timing, etc.), but wouldn't the problem happen throughout the whole entire powerband then? i mean, it will drive normally unless i take it up into the high 6k range.

most people i trust are telling me this is probably something electrical.. but nobody has any idea as to what exactly.

any suggestions will be helpful of course.

its something pertaining to your ignition system. my hatchback did that, i fixed it by changing out the coil, maybe try that and see if it helps
