Default Blower Motor

Anyone replaced a blower motor? I was driving with all my stuff in the back from Atlanta to St. Louis and my blower motor is not working anymore. I checked all the fuses, connections, etc and it all look good. I can hear the motor spinning slowly and sounds like it is scraping.

Any suggestions?

Have you ever replaced it was what I was trying to ask. Did not come out right. I am afraid I will have to take the whole dash apart.

you don't need to remove the dash, the blower assembly is relatively easy to remove.
check with the manual on that

you will in fact have to pull the dash. theres one bolt at the top thats unreachable. not easy for a first timer but do it once and you could pull it again in like half hour. just gotta know where everything is. once you pull the dash its easy to swap it out fro a new one. I'll type it all up for ya if ya wanna know....

pull the glove box(two 8mm bolts on the lower hinges, also has phillips on them but they are tight)

then in between the heater control box(center of dash) and the blower theres a connecting duct squarish in shape. on each side of of this duct there are metal straps with one phillips head screw on one end farthest forward/upward. they swing down and disconnect.
if you have A/C this duct would be your A/C core thingy(condensor? ) anyways if you have A/C check a repair book on how to remove it without breaking your lines. I've never had A/C here in Wisco so I've never had to deal with it.

once thats done, there are three 10mm bolts holding this bitch in. one the bottom side on the firewall and one on the top side on the firewall. both of these are one the left side of the blower or twords the center of the car which ever way you look at it. the third is way up in the corner on the right side of it, near the start of the A-pillar. this is the one thats hard to reach. I can post a pic of my parts car which currently has the dash off if it helps.

There are a couple of methods "to cheat"
when replacing the blower motor to avoid discharging the a/c
and disassembling the dash..

1.What I did was to make a horizontal cut in the black foam mat
that covers the firewall so it could be pulled out of the way.

Doing this gives just enough clearance that the motor can be
"forced" from the housing..Spray everything with WD-40 to reduce resistance.
When finished, glue the mat back in place with weatherstrip adhesive.
Removing the blower housing bolts might add some extra clearance also..

2.Another method I have read about:

Pull the blower resistor out and unbolt the motor.
Go either through the hole for the blower resistor or through the
flap that opens or closes just above the motor to remove the nut that
holds the blower wheel on..

There is usually a filter screen covering the flap
so you might have the pull the screen loose or cut a small hole in it..

If you can get down to where the nut is,remove it so the blower wheel
can be separated from the blower motor.Doing this will allow the motor
to be removed followed by the wheel..
Good Luck!

Allright, I got around to doing it this morning on my day off. I cheated and went through the grate like you suggested to take the wheel off. To get to that, I had to take off the glove box which was no problem though. I had to cut up someo of that insulation to get it out the bottom. The whole procedure took about 1.5 hours. Thanks for the write up!
