If the tranny is out,The method on the first page worked for me..
Clamp a small pair of vise grips to the input shaft and make a mark
on the differental..
Cut and pasted:
"check where the axles goes in thru the pass side
by the hole there a stamp...
like a circle.. on the top side it says PL3
on the bottom it will say
Si = 1000, 3000, 9000
DX or lower model = A100 , A300, A900, A000"

Just imagine how the shifter works,
Roll it to the left,When you push the shifter forward
it pulls on the rod.
So roll it left and pull out and that should be first..

This might help, too:

Short of cracking it open and counting teeth on the gearsets, or doing the "spin test" to see how many times the diff turns per 10 turns of the input shaft, it gets hard to really KNOW what the transmission is for sure. The "Axxx" and "Bxxx" seem to be pretty solid indicators, though... but for every "rule", it seems there's at least one exception.
Hope you find out for sure soon, and hope it's what you wanted.
