Default where to buy a K&N intake??

No I'm not talking about a K&N filter, I'm talking about a K&N Intake, my friend had one on his GSR (that came with it when he bought it) and I liked it a lot.

Where are some places to pick them up?

Waste of $$, IMO. Aren't they upwards of $200 or so? I'd get a comptech icebox before a K&N. Or even J's.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/dealersearch.aspx -- I doubt many local places will have them in stock, though. Most likely you'll end up ordering it from them or ordering it online. When I was trying to find a K&N replacement, no one had it in stock; all they had were domestic filters for Chevys, Pontiacs, etc.

In fact, here it is (GSR version)

http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/k...79a6a

$200+. From the pic, looks like you'd get the same effect if you were to take off the top on your stock intake airbox Get something proven: i.e. comptech icebox, j's, AEM, etc.

I was an assistant manager at Advance Auto for 3 years. They do carry them, and will price match with Summit Racing if you want. However, I do believe that it's a waste of money. In the store, they have a catalog with each of the horspower gains for vehicles equipped with their intakes. I think that a GSR only gained 4.7hp... so for $200... Thats not good. And K&N seems to be truthful on hp gains, there was one vehicle in the catalog, I believe it was a Camaro SS and it only gained something like 2.7 hp with an intake that cost $300+...

I work at advance, we do sell em. I think their something around 175 now. Maybe 200. I think you'd be better off with an AEM though. We can order those as well. :-D

You all can order AEM??? I didn't know this, never have seen a catalog in any of the stores racks! Did you know that Advance can get quite a bit of performance stuff, you jsut have to go to the right store, with intelligent employees.

No. In the end, it's a $200 short-ram with a K&N air filter (of course). One good thing is the heatshield, but that doesn't really make it a $200 intake. For about the same price, you can buy an ICEMAN that you can split apart to use as either a SRI or CAI. I had one on my EJ8, and it was very good quality with spot-on fitment. It was $200 from Summit Racing, but maybe it's more for a DC. You'll have to check on that.

On my DC2, I'm using a K&N E-2427 without the airbox resonator. Works fine and I'm happy. Kind of like the A'PEXi intake but with a heatshield of sorts, although the K&N hasn't tested as well as the filter A'PEXi uses. But for $70 and 15 minutes of my time, I can't complain too much. (Took me 10 minutes to realize it's easier removing the spring clamp to slide the filter into the tubing and then re-install it afterwards. )
