Default Dallas area mechanic recommendation

Forum members,

I am living in the greater Dallas Fort Worth area in Texas and am looking for a recommendation on a trustworthy and thorough mechanic for a 60k service my 2000 Civic. I have had bad experiences with dealerships in the past recommending service I did not need while simultaneously omitting a repair I was paying for. However, I realize this does not represent all dealerships so if a forum member strongly recommends a particular dealership I would not be short sighted.

Additionally, if anyone has had a problem with or received bad service from a Dallas Fort Worth metroplex mechanic, this information would help me know who to avoid.

I appreciate the responses and thank all of you for the advice. -Spike

I do not have the facilities to work on the vehicle myself, otherwise I agree, it's the only way to be sure.

I live on the North side of the metroplex a few minutes West of DFW airport. I am willing to drive a great distance for the right place.

Regarding Vandergriff, I spent a few hours the other night and came across quite a few testimonials regarding unethical and poor service. I also found a fewer number of unhappy David McDavid patrons. I called Honda of America customer relations in Torrance CA and they said they weren't interested in helping to make a recommendation.

As long as it is a dealership there will always be bad things said about that dealership. There will always be that one person that is just mad to begin with and give the whole dealership a bad name. I have been to Vandergriff and McDavid in the past and have been happy with both places. I guess it all depends on which person you deal with at the dealership. BTW Tammy at Huggins Honda will treat you like a complete moron so stay away from there.

Dealer-Alternative in FTW 2701 White Settlement RD 817-870-5096. Use with Danny, Bob (20+ years at Honda dealership), Or Steve Metcalf (the owner) they specialize in Honda & Acura cars only. All their guys are ASE & Honda & Acura certified too.. Very knowledgeable & always willing to help me with any problem I have ever had. Plus they only used Honda Factory parts..

This is off topic, but everyone I've met named 'Tammy' is a complete ******* bimbo/*****.

Back on topic. I've never had good experiances with dealerships, I've always tooken my cars to my mechanic for years, he's great.
