Default Anybody had this happen?(Broken Lug)Vandalism?

So, I was washing the hatch and discovered the second one in about two months.
As you can see, the one below was snapped first and the splined tuner lug replaced with stock out of convenience. Is someone ******* with me? If so, it's working.

I ******* hate people that mess with other people's ****. You work hard for what you have, then some jealous little ***** has to go and try to destory it. I hope you find out whoever is doing that ****, catch his punkass, and call the cops.

vandles suck, at least they aren't stealing your rims, or just taking off the tire and letting the car sit there

Yeah... the car wasn't very far from me, but at a busy little auto center where I do state inspections on Saturdays. Nobody would get excited seeing someone touching your car 'cuz everyone's there for car related stuff. They know i'm busy as **** and how long would it take to snap off? Seconds. I always back into the space and this side faces away from our door which makes sense. Mario next door (who has a sick-*** 240, incidentally) said someone told him he's had some lugs break on his Civic after replacing rotors, but I've never heard of that or experienced it. Trying to plan to catch them is almost impossible if it is vandalism because they're so random, which makes the chicken-***** so happy.

it could've been overtorqued and while you were driving it broke off?... from experience

exactly, it is a simple fix...and very inexpensive, the stud is like 2.18 from Napa, Advanced Auto, Pep Boys etc.

can replace it in within 15 mins.

That's what I was hoping to hear. But what is over-torqued? I use a breaker and just cinch them down pretty good. At least now I know it is possible. Weird that I've never seen that before, and I've been around awhile.

I've got plenty of spares from replaced hubs, but it aint 15 min. if you do it right.
The hub should be separated (usually screwing the bearing) and you have to have a press. And it's a bitch to squarely support the spindle in the press. Then re-assembly, bleh..
I did the quick method where you force it in without removal, but the lack of clearance damaged the threads. I didn't want to cut my backing plate. Maybe I'll do better this time. I'll try to clear the threads but I don't think it was possible. Dunno if the Si is different than others. I just dressed them afterwards, but I wanna do better work than that if possible.

Thats not vandalism. Thats your studs being lame or you over tightening your lug nuts.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check with a torque wrench until I get the feel. I didn't think I was putting that much on them. (OEM studs, btw.)

Spec: is 80 foot-pounds of torque.

it isn't necessary to remove the whole hub...

loosen lug nuts
jack the car up w/ chock behind the wheels
finish removing the lug nuts
remove the wheel
remove the caliper
remove the 4 screws from the rotor (use impact hammer) $25 at Sears
the rotor will come right off
drive the stud out with a hammer
then drive another stud in with a hammer
put back the 4 screws
put back the caliper
then put the wheel on again
hand-tighten the lugs
lower the vehicle
then tighten lugs to 80foot-pounds of torque.

Yup... Even if it was some punkass kids trying to **** you off, it's easier said then done to just break off the studs. I remember when I use to do canyon runs a lot I broke off two studs from all the tight cornering I did. Figured out that I just tightened my lug nuts too much.

i posted in length about this once before, and am pretty sure that even with dust shields removed, there is no getting new studs in without seperating the bearing, unlike 5th gen civics. no one's perfect though...

If you look at the pic, they're all locks (exc. the recently replaced one)...well, splined anyway- but I believe the evidence points to stud failure for whatever reason, not fuckage.
Thanks again to all who weighed in.
