We're not that kind of website. I'd make a cheeky analogy to ClubSI and a gay bar, but I don't dislike gay people and, therefore, will not insult them as such .

Man, that's like looking at a gruesome, fatal accident between an EG hatch and a Greyhound bus full of unsecured kids in metal wheelchairs and saying "look: Rotas".

Don't worry about what these people say dude. If there was a dash like that that said MUGEN on it, it would be considered non rice here. Thats just the way of H-T.

Don't be so hasty. Look up the use of "Mugen" and any reply I've ever made and you'll see how rarely that applies . Ugly is ugly: I don't care if that dash gives the best head in the galaxy and reduces the car's weight by 600 pounds, it's not going in my car.

Keep this clean guys. He's asking a legitimate questions and it's his car. Do with it what he will.

I was into that stuff too, when I was in high-school, but I'm happy I didn't do it.
black/gray is clean.
Remember that if you do paint it, it'll stay that way (unless it starts flaking off), and when you grow out of it (and you will) you'll be poignant you did it.
Not to mention problems selling the car when the time comes.

I'm just going to go ahead and put my .02 in here.

If you don't have something helpful to add, don't bother. It's a serious technical question, and will be treated as such.

You have been warned.

im surprised there isnt more flaming going on

anyways, soe interiors look good painted, but most often its a shitty paint job.. it flakes, it cracks, it peels etc....
that paint job looks half decent althought its a lil too white...

and whoever said it before has the right idea.. once u paint it theres really no going back... itll be a btich to sell the car

btw.. painting a dash is no different then painting your car.. once its painted it aint stock.. so all you anti ricers really need to take a good stiff drink and wake up to reality that its no different then painting your car... yet im sure half you guys who flame for painting dashs dont have oem paintjob

if anything, you should get it reupholstered. taking out the dash isnt that hard but it's a bitch, and if you've never reupholstered before, i advise you to take it to a pro. i was a loser once and painted my interior white, i guess that's why my car wanted to total itself one day anyways, when it was white interior, i'd have to respray it every so often because it kept on chipping away! after one chip, comes 10 more. even if it looks good, IMHO, don't do it

Haha nice nice....

Personally I think it looks nice but I wouldent do it to my car. With that said you shouldent need any special tools and will propably take a few days to do that as it sits.

But you would need to remove the dash I would think.
Then you would need to get some dye and tape to mask off the line with between the white and blue,
then dye the dash and reinstall it.

Ive never done anything along those lines, but ive seen a few threads about people dying there dash if you search Im sure youll find one on which dye to use and Id use the how to on switching the climate to get your dash out.

Mods warned and you still act like a dick. =\

Anyways, to the original poster. Not my look and all, but there is a paint product line called SEM paint, made just for interior parts. I've used it on a few cars for customers. Its about 7 or so bucks a can I think. Just make sure you also buy the prep stuff. Its a cleaner that gets rid of all the oils and grime on the piece before you paint it. If you dont do that, You'll get a yucky bubbly paint job.

dont encourage this guy to ruin his car. paint, chips no matter what, you'll hate your car in 6 months. pulling the dash out everytime you need to redo it, that would suck.

No one is encouraging him. He asked a tech question and got a tech answer. Plain and simple.

Just go to you auto paint store and ask for SEM paint. They'll provide you with the proper prepping supplies and info you need to get what you want done.

If the guy wants to paint his dash, let him...it's not your dash you have to look at. If its going to make the dude happy, by all means, let him do what he wants. Don't break the guy cause most of you can't do this yourselves and you have to pay top dollar to have someone else do it for you!!!

Luckily, I found this thread -- and after spraying for over 10 years now, I am here to help you out.

Materials:
- Scotch-Brite Green + Grey Pads
- 320 + 400-600gt. Sand Paper
- 3M Plastic Adhesion Promoter
- Wax and Grease Remover (PPG, PrepSol, any brand!)
- Primer
- Paint + Clear
- * Patience ( take your time, and it'll come out right!)

Here's what you do:

1. Green/Gray Scotch Brite the pieces you want painted.

2. Wipe them down with Wax and Grease Remover (PrepSol, whatever...)

3. Spray on a few light coats of 3M Adhesion Promoter (Autobody Supply Shop)

4. Light grazing or sanding with a fresh scotch brite pad (Very lightly)

5. Spray on a few coats of Auto Primer (Sherwin Williams Spectra Prime works fine when mixed properly -- use a mixing cup) -- I dont recommend using a spray bomb of primer-not thick enough. Spray on the primer so you just coat the plastic or keep laying on a few coats to fill in the OEM textures on the surfaces.

6. Sand the primed pieces with a scotch brite or more preferably 320 - 600 gt. Sand Paper

7. Wax and Grease remove the pieces

8. Spray the desired colors on the prep'd pieces.

* Depending on what paint you use, make sure you clear over it...if you use a base/clear set up, clear over the paint. If you use a spray bomb, its up to you - but the clear will protect the paint from nicks and scratches. Use your best judgement!

** Be sure to tape off anything you dont want prep'd or painted.

Now, youre all set!
