So you pulled the valve cover and checked the timing belt?

So it was running 100% fine? No smoke, no weird noise, no check engine lights? Did it sputter then die, or did it jsut die, no warning?

Sorry, I am a newb to engines, and i thought the timing belt was on the outside of the engine, Yes I know I am retarded. The engine died with no smoke/warning/studdering. If it was infact the timing belt, what harm could that have done to my engine?

you could of bent some valves.

I actaully had an distrubitor bearing seize on me causing the cam to stop, timing belt to jump a couple of teeth. Bent the tension pulley. F-ed up a lot of stuff. I was luckey I did not bend a vavle. I was jsut pulling out of a drive thru when it went.

Some people are luckey and dont damag a thing, but most of the time you will bend a valve or two.

When you turn the key it want to start but it just cant right?

O ya how many miles on the car?? As you have the service records go look for a timing belt change. If the dealer did it I would guess it is close to $600

I broke my timing belt early in the morning on my way to work in az.. (I lived in cali at the time) 5 miles from work.... and it just died, although i was lucky, that my car didnt break anything.. cost my 900 + for the tow, and to diagnose, and fix the problem... I was 40 miles west of phoenix.. 900 was not bad...

Don't jump the gun, doesn't sound like a timing belt issue to me based on what you wrote in the initial post. I would bet on the ignitor coil or other part of your distributor going bad. Easiest way to check is to see if you have spark, pull one of your plug wires, put a plug in, have someone else try to start the car and hold the plug a little bit inside the spark plug hole so you can see a spark, if there is one. If your timing belt only jumped a tooth, your car would still start, but your idle would be extremely rough and it would probably stall out, your symptoms sound more like a fuel or ignition problem.

My reason for saying the belt is there was no signs. No engine code. If the ignitor was going out it should of mis fired before, and therefor throwen a miss fire code. Same for the fuel. If the fuel preasure drops too much it will throw a code also.

Are you planing on doing the work yourself or having someone do it for you??? Either way you need to change the belt. It is well over due for a change. If you are doing the work yourself I personally would pull the valve cover and check out the belt. If it looks OK and has tension, and the arrows line up on the cam gears then put the valve cover back on and try to see if you have spark. There is no point in trying to tunr the engine over IF the belt is broken. You could cause more damage.

Not necessarily, I have seen many ignitor coils take a **** with no previous notice or codes.

This is true, if you are pretty sure your belt hasn't been changed for a long time and it's likely to be a timing belt problem. If you know for a fact that it has been 114k without a t-belt change, maybe you can take a look. You sound like you would have to take it to a shop to do it, and while pulling off your valve cover to look at it is not hard, they may try to overcharge you.

i dunno if i mis read but when you say it doesnt start do you mean it cranks and wont start or just clicks and wont even crank. if it clicks its the starter, otherwise id start by checking for spark/fuel...
