Default Del Sol Engine Swap- B16A2 to a B18B1....smart move?

Im actually posting this for my buddy, he is going to swap the stock motor from his 95 Del Sol VTEC and replace it with a Integra LS block and tranny. I told him he is crazy. Im trying to tell him to swap an B18C5 Type-R motor instead. However he says if he drops in the LS stuff and turbos the combo it will give him better HP and fuel economy than if he drops in a Type-R motor with a bunch of internals and possibly an FI kit later. Please help me tell my friend he is crazy!

the motor and tranny is perfect for turbo

i agree..good torque motor which can produce alot of power when turboed...but i would do a TypeR if i was him and had the money..dont see many c5 swaps in a sol..

If he wants to be slower sure. The B16 is a good turbo motor too, with the 10.2:1 compression ratio, the turbo wont have so much lag. If i am not mistaken im pretty sure the Del sol has a B16A3.

So, when you say "LS Block" does that mean he just plans on using the LS block with
the B16A3 head for a LS/VTEC? I could rock out a properly built LS/VTEC for sure....

But then again... if he put the money that he's spending on the LS block and tranny into
some forged internals for his B16A3 (and some fuel managment) he could turbo the hell out of that!

(side-note) I've never understood why people say the LS tranny is better for boost.
If you get the right sized setup, you can run any kind of tranny you want! Shorter gears
will always result in faster acceleration (assuming you can get traction!)

i agree, might aswell stick with the b16 and do they stuff to this then swap, if he goes to track alot, then na b18c5 would be good.

keep the b16 and turbo it.

or just get the type-R

i myself chose an R motor over and LS-Turbo set-up just b/c of the reliability issues. i wasn't going to be building the LS or nething, and the type-R is good, reliable power straight out of the box

what a gay thread.... waste off time for your freind to even swap it out, tell him to build a ls short block, then use the b16 head, dont blow all the money on the type r motor .. ls tranny better for boost my ***

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by llxzxll &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">keep the b16 and turbo it. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Easiest route since the car already has that motor anyways.
