Default Custom trunk traction bar

Hi,
Well it might not make sense to you but I want to make a custom rear strut bar. But today I was cleaning out my trunk and i took out the carpet and the plastic thing that goes around the hook to keep the trunk closed. (1999 civic coupe) and I found 2 holes for screws. So I was thinking if I would make a strut bar with 2 bars comming from it to those 2 holes. Pretty much like a traction bar for your trunk. Heres a pic I made in photoshop. Yes, I know it looks like trash and its not even the same year civic. Its just to show you what I mean:

Well my question is well the extra bars help or is it a waste of time and effort?

Romo, great idea! Its not necassarily(sp?) a traction bar for your trunk, but a triangulated rear strut bar. You will see these on some nice front strut bars. As for whether or not it would work, absolutely. You couldnt make anything better. The triangle is the strongest isometric shape, besides the circle which cannot usually not be made in any projects, therefore, this would be the best you could get. Onyl concern...at one point you called the holes in the trunk for "screws", then you called them "bolts"....which is it? Screws would probably be pointless....if they are BOLT HOLES, then GREAT! Now get to work! Haha. Good Luck!

I have a very similar designed bar that my buddy and I made last summer. I'll try to post some pics later. I have to say that it kicks ***, getting that rear end tied together. The bad thing is, if you get rear ended, you know it will push your shock towers forward, and the car is toast...

how much angle are you getting on the bars that connect to the rear? It seems as if it's creating more of a box shape when a triangle would be more ideal. Still, awesome custom idea... makes me want to get off my lazy butt and learn to weld already.

To tell you the truth im not sure. if i were to guess i would say 55-65%. The Bolt hole were not aligned perfectly so the one on the right is off alittle. Heres the bar done: (Im going to go pick up some pipe covers soon)

You should get up and learn its fun and the bar works. I can take turns alot better now!!!
