if the cams were backwards, i dont think theres any way in hell you could get the distributor on.

i dont you can get your cams are in backwards.. how would you even put in your dizzy if that were to happen.. there's no slot on an exhaust cam...all you need is spark, compression, timing, fuel......
1) ground your plugs to see if you have spark..
2) check if your timing belt and all that are on correct...
then if that all checks out..
3) then turn your key to the on position, take out your dizzy and ground it to the block. slowly start turning the fork part that slips into the slot on the intake cam with your fingers and you should hear clicks from each injector....that means they are working...
if that checks out, then check your compression...
sorry if you get confused.. i'm in a rush.. but if you have any problems with anything i explained then PM me

Check the ground by the thermostat housing. Distributor plugged in, and check all of your connectors. Things like this usually turn out to be something simple.
My firebird had the same problems when i put a carb. on it. I ended up flooding it and it would not start. Take out the sparkplugs, see if they are wet and smell like gas, if they do, get new ones and it should start right up!
