radio/cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing
my friend just got an amp and sub installed "professionally," and he said that after a day or so his deck wouldn't come on when he started his car. he took it in to the place where they installed it, and they fixed, but he had the same problem again a few days later. i checked out his car and determined that the fuse for the radio/cigarette lighter was blown, and replaced it. as soon as he started his car after this, i saw a spark/flash from the fusebox, and the same fuse (the new one) was blown again. so what would cause this? is there too much power coming through somehow? any ideas?
You need to know what is blowing the fuse, the lighter ot the HU, I would try unplugging the lighter, [at the back] and see what happens, if the fuse blows so fast that it "spark/flashs" it sounds like a bad short, if after unplugging the lighter you still have the problem, then it's time to pull the HU and see what kind of wiring job the place that did the install has done, a common problem on Honda/Acura HU installs is the wire harness, or part of it, will get "pinched" under the back of the HU, and after a short time the wires will short out.
