OT: do you have to tap the block to add a water temp. autometer gauge
Can't you get it on the radiator side?
That seems like an easier install to me... just the other end of the radiator hose.

If you think you may want to take it back to stock why don't you do it like this:
1/. get another radiator hose (or use your current one and if you need another one get it later)
2/. cut about 2" out of the hose (probably as close to the engine as possible)
3/. get a 3" piece of stainless steel with the same OD as the ID of the rad hose (or as close to it)
4/. get a boss welded into the tube for the temp probe
5/. join the two bits of hose with the tube
Yes this method works and it's totally removable.

I got the simplest solution:
Just locate your factory water temp. sender, remove it and put the autometer sender in there, Thats what I did

Steve, I think the AutoMeter sending unit is too big to fit on the water neck.
I drilled and tapped the water spout on the back of my B20, in the spot where a nipple would normally come out for an OE oil cooler.
