engine oil dipstick
i got a dx motor, and everytime when i check the oil in the gas station, it shows about 75% full, so i fill it up to the full mark. then whenever i go to my buddys house, after staying overnight and not turing on the car for more than 10 hours, it shows about... 50% over the full mark. my motor doesnt burn any oil, and i want to know which reading is accurate. the reading after the car hasnt been driven for more than 10 hours, or an engine that has just shut off.?

How long do you let it sit at the gas station. Are both surfaces level ?
You should always wait 5 mins and make sure your on a flat surface. If you let your car sit over night and then check it, that's the most accurate way.

or just 4 hours which is technically called a "cold" motor

It is not accurate to check the oil dipstick soon after your car has been running. Wait a while for the oil to settle in the pan.

Check your oil IN THE MORNING after the car was shut off the whole night...
The dipstick level should be on the "full" mark... that is THE ONLY CORRECT WAY of checking oil level...
Remember that you must have your car on level ground to correctly check the oil...
And always do it in the morning...
If you (for any reason) can't wait until the morning, let your car sit at least 1 hour so all the oil poors back into the oil pan...
You were OVERFILLING YOUR OIL PAN and that can HURT YOUR ENGINE... do NOT do it...
