I need help on how to change the rear motor mount. I have removed all the bolts on the base, and of course to the motor. drivers front motor mount is loose, and dogbone on the front of engine , when I raise the motor up ( trying to tilt the back up ) the transmission hits the rear cross member. I don't have enough room to get the mount out.

 

you should be able to place a 2 by 6 between the jack and the oil pan and lift the motor up about 1" to get the mount out.

 

I have done what you say but 1" doesn't give me enough room to pry out the mount. it is loose, but which way do you take the mount out? it won't go back towards the firewall it hits first.

 

I have not changed one on a 92 car but the ones on the 5th gen come out fairly easily. On my car it was easy cause i jacked up the engine and pulled the mount out from the bottom first.

 

first off you do not have to do anything with frt mount if changing the rear mount...
remove the main 17mm bolt the 1 thats goes through that hold mount to bracket from the top , raise car up, remove vacc hose, remove left axle, remove support bracket between block and manifold 2 12 mm bolts, .remove all the bolts that hold the mount into the tranny i believe there are 4 17 mm bolts remove the 3 14mm bolts that hold mount to cross member now push toward rear of car the mount and bracket, now lift up bracket off mount and slide it off the mount you might have to raise tranny up from rear to have more clearance,once bracket is off mount will come out you have to twist it to make it come off .
when you put it back in position mount in rear member and push as far back as you can slide bracket over the mount and line up the main 17mm bolt but do not put bolt in, slide bracket over the tranny to make fit , position the mount so the 3 14mm bolts line up, finger start the bolts, install all the 17mm bolts for the tranny bracket leave them slightly loose this will help line up upper 17mm bolt. lower car, install upper bolt leave it loose for now come back down and tighten everything up once done underneath finish up by tighting 17mm bolt from the top

 

absolutely on the money as how to remove, the rear motor mount. another dumb question though. what is the best/proper procedure for getting the left axle out, thanks in advance.

 

I believe you have to take off the heater core cooling lines to get the mount out.

 

1. Take off wheel
2. Take out center nut
3. loosen bottom of A arm ( i think that what it called) Need to hit the side a few times to get loose <do not hit the screw it will mushroom out and give you hell>
4. Pull the brake assembly toward you and to side then the axle head should pop out
5. Go back under with a Pry bar or screwdriver and pop out the axle.
6. Pull out axle.

Do reverse for axle. Shouldnt be too hard. Gl with it.

 

thankyou very much, the job is now done, and I couldn't have done it without everyones. advice. As you can tell I had bit off more than I could chew. I can now say first hand if you follow the instructions, a non mechanic can perform this Job.
