Default Questions about my B16A

Hello,
Well I have an 89 CRX Si with a b16a swap, when I bought the car the owner told me the engine came out of a 2000 Civic Si (I knew it didn't). I belive the '00 Civic Si is a b16a2, where mine is a plan old b16a which I belive is a JDM only motor. I know the JDM b16a has at least two variations of compression ratio, which results in more/less HP. I was wondering if anyone knew a way for me to identify which B16A I had?

Also the tranny attached to the car doesn't seem to be labled in the normal spot (Not in the same spot as my YS1 tranny), or it has worn off, anyone know how I can find out what transmission it is?

Thanks

the tranny won't help with the block id. But that's cool. The J1 is a good tranny. yeah check the serial stamp. 1 mil series or 5 mil series. I have had my b16a for about 1 year now and people are still conflicting with which number means what. But i can give you a helping hand and tell you that.

One of them is Outta a 88-89 Integra XSI/RSI
the other is outta an SI-R.

The comp ratios are: 10.2:1 and 10.4:1 And i just recntly found out From a guy on H-T....that the 5 mil series has the 170hp rating b/c it has a 1mm Higher lift on the intake cam. [(?) i haven't cared to check but i'll take his word.] And the 5mil has the 10.4:1 comp ratio. So check your numbers.....

AND GET YOURSELF A YS-1 TRANNY. I swear bye it. it truly is the perfect addition to your motor. Before i blew my Cv bearings across the parking lot....I would keep up with/beat stock s2000 on the freeway, and on the straight away inch ahead of a gsr-92hatch swap. But **** don't take my word....ask around.

The engine code should end in a number, I.E. B16a1, B16a2, the a2 is the USDM engine if its a B16a then that is the JDM equivalent.

check your intake manifold,(given that its still stock) if it has a "PGM-FI" on it, then its a b16a with a 10.2 CR.

It doesn't have a sticker on the intake mani. (B16A2), The B16A1 IM has the same PGM-FI logo as the DC tegs

The difference is also in teh valve cover. One has the DOHC bigger than teh VTEC and vice versa.

My valve cover looks like the the Civic Type R one, only black. So I guess mine is a JDM B16A (10.2 CR) with 160HP

Also I don't know if this is true or not, or if the engine would even work right. I heard if you have the wrong ECU that the engine would not engage VTEC, would the engine even run if it had the wrong ECU? Also how can I find out what ECU I have to ensure I am switching lobes

Thanks for the Info

What ECU do you have? If you have a PR3 then you are good. I beleive there is another one you can use, but I'm not sur eon teh code for it. As long as you arent using an ECU for an LS or something from a different OBD then you are fine.
