Shot Pein Rods vs. Eagle Rods
I am building a 2nd NA LS/VTEC Block and was wondeirng if there was that much difference between shot peining my rods and getting new rods, besides the fact that I will save money, I will be staying under 250whp if that help???
Also whats the price difrference between the 2?
Thanks in advance

If going allmotor, Shotpeened Rods w/ ARP rod bolts will hold up perfect fine. Yes it will save you about $200 or more! Stock rods are supposed to be able to withstand 250 whp.
im not trying to hijack anything but arent eagle h-beams WAY too burly for a NA application? wouldnt he be better getting some crower a frames or shot peening his stock ones?
and if price is the case ive seen scat rods for cheaper than eagle.

Yea, eagle rods are a lil on the heavy side. Ive head they are good up to 500whp @9k.
Yet shot-peening your stock rods yields small, around 5% strength increase. Im using stock gsr rods with arp rod-bolts resized.. w/o shot peen.. and should hit 200whp easy..
Stock rods will suffice..

In what condition though? eagle rods, in my opinion can be major overkill in some all motor apps. Now forced induction, i would choose eagle in a heartbeat..

Eagle rods are heavy, and I wouldn't use an H-beam rod for allmotor applications. If going after market then look into I-beam rods for N/A purposes.
Also I do not feel I need to use aftermarket rods unless i plan to completely build a block.
ex: sleeves, deck plate, Stroker kit
Just my opinion though.

i thought i remembered a post comparing stock, eagle, and probe rods, and they stock ones were heaviest, than eagle, and then probe lightest. I think the eagles were a tad lighter than stock, despite being bigger.
This might be bad info but i distinctly remember the weights being listed.

the stock type-r rods are just about ~550 grams if i can remember correctly how much do the eagles weigh? I believe they weight between 525 and 550.
So the question should be do the itr rods weight the same as a gsr rod and if so the weights are close.

Might want to rethink that statement. Eagle rods are a made in China rod, similar to the Scat and Crower Econobillet. The difference is the machining on it. The Scat rods retail fo $299.95 for a set, and if you lay them next to an Eagle it is nearly impossible to tell the difference. If you want top of the line, you will look at companies such as Carrillo, Oliver, Cunningham, Pankl, and Dyers, among others.

Thanks Ross, im glad someone said it, i tried, but i have a hard time conveying my message without coming off like a dick
But back to the original topic, eagles are going to be the better choice if you plan on BUILDING your engine, that said i run stock rods cuz im poor!
why spend the money on a 240-250hp motor and not throw 300 bucks into some decent rods?
