has anyone else ever broken a CRX clutch pedal bracket?
Yeah, somehow I act like I have Arnold's leg strength and slammed down on the clutch pedal so hard that the pivot point, where there is a bolt running through the pedal itself, broke away from the bracket that holds it in place. So the pedal doesn't pivot correctly and the clutch cable doesn't get pulled right. So now I can't shift gears! This is on a 91 HF. I guess it wasn't designed to actuate a heavy-duty pressure plate, but jeeeez.
Anyone else seen anything like this before?

My buddy broke one in his 91 4dr and my brother in law has been through 2 in his 91 CRX. I have been twice as hard on mine with taking it out on the Road Course and I have had no failures yet...but I'm sure I'll get one at some point.
You are definitely not the only one.
Most/all people I've heard of breaking their clutch brackets are using heavy pressure plates.

This happened to my crx again. So I but some fat welds on the place it always brakes and welded a piece of round bar to the base to hope to make it stronger. I recommend this has it should be strong enough now it will just break cables which are a 5 minute fix not 8+ hours
Man Ive broken the original and 2 brand new ones and had to pay 100.00 ea getting the part again. This is a HUGE crx weakness. I've welded it trying to strengthen it and stuff just nothin wrks. Just a design flaw. Ive been keeping the pedal as lubed up as poss my only suggestion is when the cable gets older take it off and relube it or replace it...problem solved

would someone who welded their **** to make it strong post some pics of it. Im getting to use a welder soon i wanna do all the stuff like this for preventative maintenance.
My clutch pedal creaks when you push it in. Thats when you know the cable is bad and needs lubed up or replaced. Yeah and for the 10$ part, nothing is 10$ when its a dealership only part... I tried welding it first just to strengthen the first bracket and there was no such luck in that unless you were going to fab something up before you put it in, because for anyone who has replaced this part they know its CRAMPED!!! Unless you actually added some crossbracing it would be pretty useless.
just welded a piece of round bar to the actuall bar that holds the assembley then welded down to the base. The idea is to try keep the amount of twist that occurs in the pedal which is the reason why I believe they break. Oh and obvisouly its not becasuse were hard on our pedals it is a flaw that many ef owners have gone threw. My experince is that it broke both times on an old worn out cable
i see my thread was brought back from the dead b/c another EF-er broke their clutch pedal assembly.
i pulled one off a junker at a salvage yard, paid $20 or so, and put that rig on. i wanted to have it weld-reinforced, but i didn't get around to it (i was VERY anxious to drive the Rex again). no probs (knock on wood).
if you are looking for one, go to a junk yard or...
START A WANTED THREAD B/C OEM PRICES ARE WAY TOO HIGH, AND I HAD A COUPLE PEOPLE IM ME AFTER I HAD BOUGHT THE SALVAGE YARD PIECE, AND THEY WERE ONLY GONNA CHARGE ME LIKE $20 SHIPPED.
ef-honda.com etc are good places to start thread or search the classifieds

hell, PM me and i can pull one off a junker and mail it to ya if you are in BFE and can't visit a junkyard, etc.
i like to help EF-ers.

i had mine break in a stock dx hatch, stock clutch. i would suggest picking up one from honda and just welding on some bracing before you reinstall it. should work perfectly fine for a heavy duty clutch then
I got lucky and found a new clutch pedal assembly on craigslist within a few hours of searching. the part was within an hour of my house, and a borrowed vehicle and $20 later I have the new assembly. 8 hours later, the car is put back together and I'm test driving it. it shifts smoothly and everything is working properly. any idea what a mechanic would charge to do this?
I just lost the ability to shift on my 91 CRX (daily driver) on my way home an hour ago. New clutch installed two weeks ago. I assumed that it was the cable that broke, now I'm not so sure.
Is it really obvious from looking under the dash if it's the bracket or not? I'm currently waiting for the tow-truck to come take my baby home.
