I can answer this.
Canada sucks for buying cars. No matter where our economy stands, car dealerships and upper management routinely like to pretend our dollar is only about 60 cents US (more like 75-80, thanks!). This means it costs (are you sitting down?) 33 grand for a Type S, 47 grand for a 350Z, and 50 grand each for an S2000 or an STi!!! These are BASE prices, with no options. And this is all BEFORE taxes (which are ***-rapingly brutal!).
In other words... not too many punk kids around here ballin' in nice rides. Also not too many well-off adults in nice cars, either. See, on top of having high car prices, we are also blessed with insanely high income taxes, so even if you make 100 000 before taxes, you're looking at roughly 50-55 grand take home.
What's the EL have to do with this? Due to the discrepancies explained above, Honda/Acura Canada saw a niche they could fill by offering up a cheap car (Civic), and putting leather and a few other niceties inside, and sticking an Acura badge on it for added prestige. It's one of their top sellers.
