LCA Bushing how to replace?
My Civic has 228,XXX on the clock & The rear end is very loose, while inspecting the rear end I Noticed that both sides on the car these bushings are broken. I called Honda and they don't even show it being replaceable they say you need to buy a whole new LCA (Smart... Real smart by Honda) so... What are my options? I see that engery makes a replacement but its like 110 bucks and frankly when you only paid 450 for the car... 110 is a lot to put into 2 bushings IMHO. Should I just try scouting out a pair of LCA from another Civic?? Thanks guys!

youre talking about whats called the rear trailing arm bushing.
you can actually buy the bushing straight from honda, they didnt list it originally as separate but they do now if you know the part number. itll still be about $115 new. for the same price, and debatably the same part, you can get mugen bushing bought separately from other vendors.
here's a story illustrating replacing the OEM bushings. you can get the part numbers inside.

energy suspension and prothane offer poly bushing replacements. one of them is cheaper than the other, because it comes with the dogbone, the other you need to cut out and reuse. perhaps you looked into the other more expensive alternative.
there are a few shops out there that have come out with spherical bearings and/or poly or delrin replacements as well. but considering you dont want to spend much money, i guess you shouldnt bother.
ppl will get into why you sohuld get OEM/mugen replacement for the rear trailing arm bushing because the multi axis of rotation, which the poly bushings only really allow one axis of rotation, but just get whatever you want to spend money on. your car is not going to fall off a cliff because you have poly bushings.

i know people that think they will dies if they dont have race spec everything.
tyson is right too, some honda dealers are dicks if you try to tell them theres a updated part or TSB on that bushing(i used to work for one). Just give them the part number and tell them its a bushing, dont bother explaining to them what it is or their world will start to crumble because it doesnt exist to them, then they will not want to order it because they think your ordering the wrong part, and they have to pay for the shipping. I usually just order OEM parts from manchester honda online via email, then i dont have to deal with the Tards behind the parts counter at my local dealer.

I think so, another thing to think about, the urethane busings need lubricant to fit in, and keep from squeaking. My friend drills holes and threads in a grease zerk(sp?) anywhere he puts a urethane replacment on any avalible place in the car, then about every 4-5 months he greases all the bushings and it keeps them from squeaking.
just a thought - grease zerks are like $4 for a 10pack at autostore, saves you alot of annoying squeaks later on.

Don't get the energy rear trailing arm bushings. Its not a direct replacement. YOu have to cut out the rubber on the old ond and somehow get the energy ones to fit. I bought oem ones from the dealer for 60 each. But they already died. If you live in so cal I would recommend a stronger aftermarket set. I am going to order the Mugen ones from kingmotorsports next month.
Its not hard to replace if you get oem ones. Just press them in. Or hammer them in. The energy ones are just a huge hassle.

when you put them in, you have to make sure they are oriented right, otherwise they will burn up real fast. the orientation is different if the car sits at a different ride height, too...
yeah. its the reason why the RTA bushings crap out so often. my never lowered CRX has perfect RTA bushings after 200k miles. once you lower it, the orientation is all messed up. its constantly loaded and stressed.

Do not get the poly ones they dont allow enough movement, i dont know where you guys are buying your honda parts but i got both at my honda dealer for $80, i compared them to my friends mugen ones and they appear the same, also honda sells the tool to remove and install them, you have to align them if your car is lowered do not put them back in straight you have to align them in the direction they will sit when lowered, for my car it was about 10 mm off center
Well this is my winter beater and I just need to keep it on the road bascially,would I just be better off finding someone who swaped out thier LCAs and that have decent Trailing Arm Bushings???
I went with the Prothane bushings (set of two) from Summit in my hatchback for a whopping $89 shipped. Arrived in two days. The Prothane set works just fine. The nice part is you don't have to remove the old center like you must with the Energy Suspension bushing, you can just throw the whole thing away!
Have a shop press out your old ones if you can't do it, and put the new ones in yourself. I had mine pressed out at Red Rooster in Crystal MN.
The prothane bushings have a tapered sleeve, so it wedges in just right.

If you need a set of RTA bushings, I have a brand new set. They are made by Energy Suspension (black polyurethane) I'll send them to you for $35.00. I needed a set for my brake swap, but I bought the wrong set. If you have the following, these will fit.
