Is the car getting pushed backwards while in gear bad?
My driveway is a big *** hill and I always park with the car in first gear and the e-brake all the way up. My dumb *** brother was parked in front of me and thought his pathfinder was in drive, well it wasn't and he nailed the gas. His tow hitch smashed my bumper and sent my car rolling backwards.
Luckily it rolled slow enough so that when it hit the road my brother was able to stop it before it went off the cliff and into my neighbors house.
So basically I'm just wondering how the hell a transmission works and if anything might be fucked up? I always thought that if the car was off and it was in gear it couldn't roll backwards.
I'm assuming that it was just the clutch giving way and slipping or something?
Fill me in here on what the hell happened

Damn.. That sucks.. Does the car drive ok? If everything works fine I doubt taht thee is anything messed up with it. Most likely just popped out of gear.
what happens when you park your car when in gear is that the motors compression helps it from rolling backwards... it is still possable to move a car when in gear.. its kinda like when you put a wrench on the crank pully and try to turn it its hard to turn it but you can still turn it... same concept... no there should be nothing wrong with your car motor wise but im guessing your bumper is messed up
