Oil burning problem
All right to i put the new brakes on the car, and while i was at it i tested the compression because i suspected the car was burning oil. Well the compressions were 180-175-175-170, and none of the spark plugs showed any signs of oil being in the cylinders. So there goes that theory. But what else could cause my car to burn oil, i know its burning it because if you look at the back of my car theres oil all over the bumper, and if i miss a shift i can see the blue smoke.
I guess we need a little more information. How many miles on the accord? What kind of oil are you using. Engine ever been flushed/cleaned? Desert Honda gave you a good answer. It is either the rings, valve seals or PCV valve. The black stuff on your bumper could also be a rich running engine. You should know from your dip stick if it is burning oil. If so has the PCV valve been replaced recently like last 60,000 miles or so, this would be an inexpensive thing to try. Use OEM Honda pcv. If that does not fix it try a dry/wet compresson. Just squirt a little oil in each cylinder after a regular compression check and turn over the engine a few time and do another check. If the compression improves your rings or the problem. If all the compression figures are the same as dry it is your valve seals. If it is rings a product called auto-rx is you best bet. It cleans the ring packs. http://www.auto-rx.com. If it is valves that is a valve job. Now go to work and let us know how it goes.
91 Accord LE 135000 miles, only about 4000 of those miles are me. The car had a blown head gasket before i got it and the guy who i bought it from fixed it. Right now im running 10w-30, after my next oil change it goes to 10w-40. My grandpa who helped me with the car said that the spark plugs showed signs that they had been running lean.
i have seen in some cars before same problem after car has been overheted badly the oil rings collapse thus causing the using and burning oil issue
