sorry guys...oem pads or hawks/axxis?
hey guys..time for my gf's type r to get new pads and rotors (maybe rear rotors are ok..haven't looked at them)
anyways, front rotors from autozone..that's a given
do any other companies make rear rotors besides cobalt and oem?
also, i'm struggling to decide whether to get oem pads (i think they're 40-50 a pair?) or the popular hawks or axxis (60-70 a pair?)...are the aftermarket pads worth the $20-$30 price hike over oem pads? anyone have an idea which pads last longer? just want some input
car is daily driver/occasional autox and on street tires so no killer braking power/fade resistant will be needed
thanks

Axxis suck IMO. THey do dust way too much and stop the same as OEM. Hawk HP+ or Cobalt GT Sports are worth the dust for the additional power, safe on the streets, great for Auto-X and handle light track duty.

No way. Ultimates > OEM. Who cares about dust anyway. Heh.
I liked them a lot on the Hype R. Liked them so much that I slapped them on the S2K as street pads too.

Autozone does. They're not as cheap as the fronts, though ($49 rear vs $25 front).

OEM front pads (part number 45022-ST7-R02) list for $50/set, run $40 at Delray Acura.
OEM pads have good grip, low dust, low noise. They're good pads.
I really like the Cobalt GT Sport pads, for my use, which includes the racetrack as well as the street (daily driver). They have a nice bite, without major noise or warmup needed. However, they're $109 for a front set. If you're only using the car on the street or for autocross, then the OEM are probably all you need. No need to spend more money for something else.
(I've found that the GT Sport last longer than the OEM, but that's based primarily on racetrack use. I don't know if that would be true for a car that's only street driven and autocrossed.)
BTW, be careful when you throw out a brand name like Hawk or Axxis (or Cobalt Friction or Carbotech or Porterfield, etc). Each brand sells a variety of brake pads - everything from pure street pads, to street/track pads, to pure track pads. Each step up usually consists of greater bite and more resistance to heat, offset by greater noise and dust and, in the case of track pads, the need to warm up before they're effective. So it matters not just which brand, but which specific pad you're talking about.

Now give them the Upside- there is always 2 sides to the story.
And if you were not such a slacker and actually washed the caR more often you would not have run into the issue of "destroyed" wheels. Simple Green Owned you on that subject!

Get OEM. I have had Hawks and Axis. I like OEM better. I have Hawks right now. When they get really hot, they float on the rotor. With OEM when they get really hot, they still grip, they just wear down a lot faster. I would rather stop than not.

My issue with them is not the dust, but the fact that they do not have the stopping power I expect.

I totally agree. No better than OEM IMO. THe dust is just a highly anooying by product considering they don't have the stopping power. Hawk HPS are a waste of time too IMO. Hawk HP+ or Cobalt GT Sport and of the 2 Cobalts are the way to go. Ferodo makes nice pads too but they are pricey.
