Default my D16y8

ok i have been thinking about what my cousin had told me about fully rebuilt motor. It wont last as long as an oem motor, if that is true then what will fit my Y8? i am almost done taking apart my motor last night! What pistons, rods and crank shaft will fit my Y8 besides JG and all that other stuff?

I am stuck on taking my block apart, i tried for 2 hours and got nowhere! ERR can anyone help me with that?

now I am ok on the head I know what i need for it! I am planning on boosting my d-series with an Elderock turbo kit...so now i need help to rebuild my motor with a different oem part besides a Y8! HELP!!!

So you want build your engine with only oem honda parts? That defeats the purpose IMHO. Why not just buy an ls motor? You can get one of those for 600-1000 bucks. That would be better with a turbo and you would still be oem(minus the turbo).

you want to go turbo? OEM is not the best choice...

To all who said oem is not good.

If you took the strongest parts from different motors then you would not have any problems. Example. Suzuki Gran Vitara Pistons, on b16 rods. that can hold lots of boost. Example 2. 89 integra rs(or ls) pistons, and rods. can hold a good amount of boost. these are just 2 examples of oem options when going turbo.

Do some research and talk to some people on this subject. then make your choice.

if done properly a rebuilt motor can be just as good... as for pistons and everything fitting... do all the measurements... get some telescoping guages and an outside micrometer that reads to the ten-thousandths and measure taper and out of round, measure all the rod journals, etc... make sure you have all the manufacturer specs ahead of time and compare your results... you can figure out if the cylinders need bored or honed or if the crank needs alignbored or alignhoned... get a straightedge and measure the warpage of the deck... if you buy new rods or pistons... make sure you get them fit to the crank... all that plays a big part in how long the engine will last... oil clearance is a big thing, theres just so much to do... but if you do it right, it will be just as good as if it came from the factory... actually... it would be even better... because factory engines are mass produced in mexico... theres no extra effort being taken into consideration on the engine... quantity, not quality... if you build it and do all the measurements, it will be better :D

you don't 'have' to... if you can find pistons that fit, thats a plus... but you want them to be within MFG specs... otherwise you could get piston slap or the rings might not fit properly...

id just suggest measuring what you can and verifying everything will be okay... all the measuring stuff is good and you can do it yourself... but you cant do the boring and honing and such... so youd have to take your block to a machine shop and tell them what you want done to it, because theyre not going to measure it... you tell them how much to take off and where... so you need to triple-triple check your measurements for accuracy... finding the right machine shop will also be difficult in itself... you want a shop that loves motors and loves to take the time and effort to get things done right... and you want it for a decent price too...

Where talking honda OEM here. Aftermarket forged rods and pistions will handle way more boost then any honda oem combo. I dont know too much about those suzuki pistons, but they dont count becuase their not honda.

Thanks Inane, yeah you hit the spot!! here in Mineesota, you can't find ANYWHERE to bore out your motor! Need connections if you want it done correctly! It's not like Cali where they will take new customers and make them regulars! Here its all about connections! it sucks butt crack big time but i'll lookk around thanks! ill look into an 89 LS to see what i really need. Thanks again!

OK i searched and found 2 possibilites!

1. .25mm Overbore OEM honda pistons made for my car (10.4:1 compression ratio)

OR

2. ZC pistons and rods for my y8 (10:1-11.2:1+ compression ratio)

which should I go with?? I am sure that I need to bore my block with both of these but which should i choose?? sorry i am asking some dumb questions but I need more expertise on this because i suck with rebuilt motors as said before!

since both compressions are so high i have to go with N/A only right???
