fuel filter
hey guys i was wondering if any1 has changed there fuel filter on a 5th gen at home? is it possible? ive had a filter sitting around for a while i wanted to change it but im not sure if i can do it myself. ive heard its a pain but i would rather do it myself.. so has any1 dones this or has every1 taken it to the shop
Yeah I gotta change mine too on my 87 Accord, 124k miles. I hear that it isn't too hard. I saw a diagram of it at the bookstore and it shows somebody pinching the line with a clamp so the gas doesn't leak. I found a link to some people with the same question.

It's not too hard to change IF you can get to it. That's what makes it suck so bad. If you reach your arms in there and don't think you will be able to reach around like you need to take it somewhere. If you can reach in fine go for it.
i duno does any1 know of a write up of some sort on how to change it... the 96 fuel filter is differnt from an 87.. i there located in differnt places.... ive looked at it and its a tight fit... theres gotta be a way to free space in there
first off if 87 accord is carburated the min filter is by gas tank it is a plastic filter...no need to pinch hoses just remove gas cap to releive pressure ,,,if 87 accord is lxi filter is by firewall below a bit to the right of emission box ..
now on the 94-97 accords it is much easier to loosen up the botton filter line from under car you need a long extension and a 14mm crow foot you want to make sure you don't strip it once the bottom line is off you will lose the fuel that was on filter so put some sort of a pan to catch the fuel ..come back to top remove the 17mm banjo bolt from the top, remove the 10mm that holds filter housing into chassis , remove it from the top by master cylinder you might have to twist and turn a bit but trust me it will come out, once assembly is out remove 10mm bolt that holds filter in, replace filter ,,now when you put it back in make sure to finger start bottom line from the top before you bolt assembly into chassis it is much much easier to line up the bottom line this way once line is started, secure assembly back to chassis with 10mm bolt, reinstall the top hose and dont forget to tighten up bottom line
