Default IM LOST WITH MY GS-R

Ok. so i have a 97 gs-r. i want to make my car faster, i would like to know like the steps in which to do this. i do know the basics, but if you could help me with priority of what to get done it would help the most. The car is stock as of right now, so every little bit helps. Thanks, Rob

I guess i will throw in im 18 in paramus, nj... so i do not have like 10 thousand to throw into my car. Thats why i want to know priority. Im not going to be majorly racing my car, but i want enough power to be respectful at the line. Thanks

i know yer a newbie and all...but you will see this a lot

''....the search button is your friend, use it.''

but since you are new, why dont you start of with an i/h/e system. let your car breathe easier. (btw, i/h/e= intake/header/exhaust)...welcome to H-T

Hmm.. here is what I would do:

1) COMPLETE Tune-Up

2) A nice Intake, and a free flowing exhaust, maybe even a nice header (see 3)

3a) If you have the cash and like boost... get a nice turbo kit for yourself. If you plan on just a street car go for a greddy street legal kit or something simple with low boost.

3b) If you have the cash and like all motor, get a thinner head gasket to raise the compresion a little bit, get a good header, and get some ctr cams if you don't want to go too crazy..

4) Either way I'd get hondata or some kind of tuning tool and have the car dyno tuned..

All that i've got right now is a milled head, intake, a crappy dc header, full catless exhaust, ctr cams, and some un-tuned uberdata ecu.. and I can hold my own pretty good. I'm waiting on an intake manifold and then I'm going to have my car dynotuned..

And yeah.. people here tend to like to flame you and give you a hard time if you don't search.. So try searching in the archives before you post basic questions..

Boost is the only affordable way to get real power.

How large is your budget? How much power is good enough for you? You could go i/h/e and maybe some cams, or maybe a low-psi turbo. Either way, search the routes you could go, all in the FAQ, and decide what you want to do.

NOS or turbo is a quick and affordable way to make fast power, but without a built motor, I'm not sure how long your motor would last. The basics are pretty much what everyone said, I/H/E and maybe cams and pulleys. How about a VAFC?

If you are going to the track alot... why dont you invest in a decent clutch and either drag radials or a pair of slicks, that should easily give you .5 sec, and the clutch will be alot more fun to drive as you add your mods.....

If you have the cash... get rocket cams and valvetrain. I hear it makes awesome power. Gotta raise yer compression though... I'd say mill the head a little bit (30 thousanths) and get a spoon head gasket or something
